Shirt sales, revenue, etc

Nonsense. Lots of clubs have brands and done terribly over the past decade revenue wise. RM have not. They have done excellent to stay at the top of the revenue league even after so many poor seasons.

Not nonsense at all. Man Utd and Real were seen as the two biggest clubs in the world for years.

What is nonsense is linking revenue so strongly to world wide superstars. Man Utd have shown that does not tell the whole story as they continue to generate huge money commercially.

Those two have been regarded as the biggest brands and ahead of Barca years ago and have had that advantage.

Reals focus on superstars etc for revenue has held them back as well...not signing Ronaldinho as too ugly etc.

Man U is the most successful club by far, in the most popular league worldwide by far. Being exposed to the huge new markets in Asia etc. It has massive revenue potential. And it will continue to be even more important. RM have managed to stay on top revenue wise even without big success and that is impressive. What the brand was like 20 years ago means nothing. AC Milan is a joke today.

Exactly my point about Man Utd is what you are saying.

The flip side of what you say about Madrid is that they have taken decisions for marketing above football at times which has led them to the point where Barca are close to over taking them revenue wise due to footballing reasons.

Real and Man Utd started way ahead. If they get over taken by Barca who have won more trophies and start to generate more money they have failed in the end and nothing to look up to or admire them for.
