Abso fucking lutely.
I've seen so many mindlessly advocating for a defender signing this winter, but very few actual options on who exactly.
Considering how few defenders are on par with what we already have, and add to that the fact that 99% of those are cup-tied, I'm suddenly not so sure we should by anyone this winter.
So, in my opinion, if we by some sort of miracle find the perfect fit - someone who can actually improve our starting xl, is not cup-tied and who's also affordable, then it's a nobrainer - buy!
However, this scenario just isn't very likely as I see it, and I wouldn't want us to buy just another cb to fill the ranks untill summer, where we can go for someone we actually want and need.
tl;dr:
Mr. Perfect shows up, sign him! Otherwise don't.
I don't think is that difficult... there's plenty excellent defenders in smaller sides who are better than, say, Song or Adriano out of place. Now, me, I want Bartra, and Muniesa, and even, why not, for Tito to give another chance to Fontàs... but let's not kid ourselves, Tito has 0 trust in them.
If Puyol was a couple years younger then, yeah, you could say that 3 CB's are enough... but the fact is that he's going to spend what's left of his career getting injured, so we have, literally, 2 CB's.
So either Tito starts trusting the kids or it's time to break the piggy bank, because a squad with two CB's is inadmissible even in third tier sides.
we are linked with Hector Moreno as a stop-gap sigining in January... He would be cheap, would be eligible for CL too. But you guys think he's a good option? I mean we let go of the chance to sign Vertonghen!! Is Hector better than the Belgian?
but I seriously doubt it's going to be as bad as you say.
Well you still have Puyol/Pique/Mascherano which you could put any in first XI, Puyol's just been really unlucky with injuries. I don't think Barca need to break the bank for one, maybe a rotational CB, as you don't really want 4 1st team CB's.
Puyol isn't necessarily finished but we need to start thinking of a Puyolless future, it might be sad but it's the reality. For all the panic about getting rid of Villa and Xavi and what not for being over 30, Puyol is the closest to the end by a considerable margin.
