State of La Liga

Its crazier that they still perceive themselves as first rate club and play hardball in a position where they can't. If they are first rate club, they wouldn't be selling Mata, they would have him compete with the new comers for a first team spot. Idiots.

It's not like they sold him on the cheap. They got 30 freakin' million euros, for a player who is worth 20. Max. Let alone the fact that he had a release clause on his contract that allowed for him to be bought for around 22m. And stupid English clubs did not take advantage of that.

Selling Mata for 30M and buying Victor Ruiz for 8M makes them the opposite of idiots actually.

Sevilla are the idiots. they made a combined €80m from selling Alves, Ramos, Keita and Adriano.

what did they spend that on? Arouna Kone? Stankevicius? I mean Monchi can't work his magic forever but that is just pathetic. and did they even TRY to find a replacement for Palop (who at the end started costing them sooooooo many points with his blunders)????

Well the finally gave up on Palop last year, about a year too late. And as far as I know they still don't have a long term replacement.

But hey, they did take us for a ride with Caceres!

and which government is not corrupt? the italian?

anyway, I'm disappointed that Rayo Vallecano don't have any bee on their shirts. they were so cool with bees :(

also, I disagree that leagues are predictable, nobody knows what will be the gap between Real, Barca and the third team. 25 points? 30? maybe a miraculous 15? 19? 32? Eh? anyone?

Valencia, Sevilla and the rest should establish and develop ladies' teams, who will play naked. The sponsors will be spotting like a rain :)

I can't find the source now, but anybody else read the article where the Sevilla president and the Villareal president joke about the league and how it's pathetic?

I don't about that article but just yesterday I was reading this article where Villarreal president said that the gap between the big 2 and the rest of the clubs is hurting La Liga.

By sugar daddies, I'm talking about rich arabs/russian oligarchs with unlimited ressources and no one to answer to (Chelsea, Man City, PSG, Malaga, Anzhi, etc.).

And yeah, the EPL is more attractive. For obvious reasons (language, more money in the UK than Spain, international visibily). Not because it's a fairer league.

what does mean "visibily" The owners of Birmingham and A. Villa, as well as the ones of Sunderland and the rest are rich enough, at least these teams have nothing to worry about finances. Funny how even the lower league attracts more investors. When every team in EPL gets a huge load of money, owns a stadium and have relatively good fanbase - yes, that means the English know how to market their product, and their league is managed better. And how on Earth is not "fairer"? What do you understand under fairer? Christian charity or something? The small clubs gets enough and they could effort international stars, which make the league more attractive abroad. Russians and Arabs know where to invest ;)

English clubs have a LOT of underwriters. Some clubs-

Aston Villa
Bolton
Blackburn
Chelsea
Fulham
Liverpool
Man City
Man Utd
Newcastle
Norwich
QPR
Stoke
Sunderland
Tottenham
WBA
Wigan
Wolves

These clubs make up 17/20 clubs of EPL. La Liga doesnt enjoy such generosity.

which is their fault. Well, this is capitalism you know, underwriters wouldn't risk and will provide only if there is a good back up.
You know, the British somehow know how to deal with these things, looking at the ex-Spanish colonies in South America and then when you look at USA and Australia you'll see the difference.

it isnt like spanish clubs dont have owners, its just that owners do not risk their own money to keep the club afloat and infact, some drain their clubs due to their carelessness and shoddy deals. barcelona, real madrid and at. bilbao are owned by members that pay membership fees which enable them to keep their elected presidents accountable to their shoddy deals. and its no suprise that those 3 clubs are possibly the best run clubs in the world.

soooo blame the club 's demise on their owners/ presidents that have substantially used their club. bolton owes 83 m or so to its owner and that value alone could pay the debt of several la liga clubs.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/may/19/la-liga-debt-passes-three-billion --> this will highlight the massive mismanagement as clubs are paying more in wages than they are getting in revenue. la liga clubs are horribly mismanaged and thats not barcelona/real's fault.

Make a European League... PLEASE. Lets be fair, Europe is a small continent and travelling will not be an issue (other sports travel cross country daily to play so no excuses about travelling). It will really help from a spectators point of view and there will be no more of this stupid arguments about which league is better.
