Thibaut Courtois

Well,Uefa should ban such clauses from happening again
Obviously it can't be done now as it is already signed but this situation is just unfair ,a player to be allowed to play against every team but one?

Isn't that how most domestic loan deals work already? If anything, UEFA should enforce this Europe-wide.

In response to media reports referring to the situation of Club Atlético de Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, UEFA would like to reiterate its position.

The integrity of sporting competition is a fundamental principle for UEFA.

Both the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations contain clear provisions which strictly forbid any club to exert, or attempt to exert, any influence whatsoever over the players that another club may (or may not) field in a match.

It follows that any provision in a private contract between clubs which might function in such a way as to influence who a club fields in a match is null, void and unenforceable so far as UEFA is concerned.

Furthermore, any attempt to enforce such a provision would be a clear violation of both the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations and would therefore be sanctioned accordingly.

Short-sighted from UEFA. What's to stop Chelsea from promising Courtios a bumper contract deal in exchange for a few 'errors' during the match? Having loaned played play against you is a situation ripe for abuse.

Knowing Mourinho he will probably start another thing against UEFA and Atleti in the media, to the point that even if Courtois manage to play he will be so distracted by all these that he will have trouble concentrating for the match.

Chelsea have abused the loan system to their advantage all season, having 23 players out, making sure key players can play against competitors but not themselves. It's unfair and certainly unsporting.

Worth noting that the Dutch FA are investigation Chelsea's loan deals to Vitesse Arnhem, apparently Chelsea were threatening to recall the 4 players they have on loan if Vitesse Arnhem dared qualify for the champions league.

I have heard that it's possible that Atletico could elect not to play Courtois because they don't want to risk upsetting Chelsea and risk their chances of having him next season.

That would be such a farce.

Chelsea want Diego Costa from them too ,A.Madrid won't risk a chance to win CL for 1st time in their history b/c they are afraid of upsetting Chelsea

Players on loan have been playing against their own team for decades and if anything most of them play their best to make a statement about their quality to their team
This is way better and more fair than allowing players to be played against some teams and not others
If UEFA are afraid about such thing then those players shouldn't be allowed to be loaned to a team playing in same competition from the start, and that will basically harm the whole loaning thing

Different with Costa because if Chelsea pay the clause it will be up to the player.

I hope you're right about Atleti not being worried about upsetting Chelsea.

I can see this game convincing Chelsea to recall Courtois, but not because of being upset.

I wonder if there is a player who has ever performed better on loan than Courtois? Best loan signing in history?
