Toni Kroos

Biggest mistake the club made was signing Rakitic instead of him. Well, and the 500m spend on bums

After this season he belongs in the same tier as Xavi, Iniesta and Modric for me.
We took Rakitic because we needed a midfielder who could also perform a large amount of defensive work on the right flank, since the brilliant and excellent Lionel Messi, to whom you almost pray, had the peculiarity of running 5-6 km in a match.
Kroos was better on the ball than Rakitic, but Ivan was better off the ball. That is why the choice was made in favor of the Croatian. He needed to close his area and cover Messi's ass.
So when you blame Enrique for taking Rakitic over Kroos, you have to remember these things.

But most fans are stupid and don't understand anything about football tactically.

Lol no, this side next season with Kroos would be nowhere near your 16/17 side

Talent wise (squad and first XI), 08/09 Barca and 16/17 RM are the strongest club sides ever assembled.
I said “one of the strongest RM sides” and you are telling me just one stronger RM side, that proves my point. The other comaparable are 11/12 with Mou and for me 2013/2014 with Ancelotti. I am a fan since 2001 and there are no other comparable RM teams since.

Kroos is the only irreplaceable player in our starting XI. Camavinga, Tchouameni and Valeverde (as CM) would be terrible midfield, they are light years of Kroos’ progressing of the ball, all of them are hiding when we are struggling to pass through high press in big matches. They were all shining because of Kroos, who was taking the main responsibilities and they were running and fighting around him.

You're not making any point
Kroos was leaving this year, next year or the year after and none of these players would replace him, nor would anyone we could bring in

Valverde is a CM and he's great there
It'll likely be him Tchouameni either in double pivot or with Bellingham taking a deeper role back into 4-3-3

We could slowly adjust our style for the day he is gone. If thats “not making a point” you could see happened to us when Ronaldo left in the next season 18/19, what happened to Barca in 21/22 first season without Messi and this season, their first without Busquets.

When you lose the player, who defines your style and the tactics are build around him, without made up plan for it - you are in trouble.

Kroos isnt nearly as essential to the team as losing 40 goal machines were to those teams

Adjustment is inevitable. Nothing tragic about it

Losing Busquets is absolutely not a comparison. He was a total liability defensively in the last 3 years
+ if Im not mistaken goalscoring + chance creation has gone up for Barca this season relative to last 2-3 years

Glad he is playing EURO. He is 34 already and chose the perfect time to retire.

Squad-wise this team is very strong but the only reason why they struggle in so many matches is because of Carlo and the reason why they still win is because of their immense quality. I think a coach like Xabi would make Real way better and more dangerous.

Madrid will probably sign a deep lying playmaker but Kroos is unique.
Not this window
Next year maybe go for Kimmich if he's up for it, pretty sure he's out of contract, + Davies as a package
Not that he's getting any younger but few decent alternatives around
Depending how they do under a new manager

It's normal transition. Without following Madrid closely I can guess they already have proper replacement for Kroos. That's their job and they have money.

Unlike Barca who had no money last summer to replace Busquets and Alba.

Uff
Good news!
Him and Modric are the last vestiges of the old guard with Ronaldo, Benzema, Ramos, Varane, Casemiro, etc.
Once these two go, Madrid will stop winning CLs

One Modric more to go...

But then, in a year or two, Ancelotti is out, who is, supposedly, holding us back massively.

Makes up for it, i reckon.

Carvajal is the best fullback in the game. He is likely gonna lift another CL for Madrid as captain in 2026 or so. I have to say, quite impressive how Florentino and Madrid got angry back when Pep Barca used to tear Madrid a new one, they took over since then. Their response has been incredible. If you leave your Barca bias and put it aside, it has been a true statement. Barca and their clueless, terrorist leaders clearly have been too incompetent to produce a reaction. Had to hope Bayern and EPL stopped them instead, but they have done a piss poor job at that. Funny thing is Atletico came the closest to stop them in CL finals.

So now we are not only losing the best CM in the world, but we will also lose the best CAM in the world making him play CM, nice!
