Transfers and Rumours - old thread

we don't need a Midfielder or an attacking Midfielder or whatever the heck he's position is. We already have Cesc and Thiago and one of them is surplus right??

Nope. 3 players is not enough for 2 positions. 4 is just right. Neither of them are surplus.

You're right that we don't need Mata though.

I like Mata but signing him would be pointless, we need to sort out the defence first and foremost.

But if Thiago goes a replacement will need to be signed which would probably cost more than the 18million the club will receive.

Hopefully we keep Thiago, sign Thiago Silva and another CB who would be used as backup, Agger would be a good option. If those 2 CBs are signed that would cost about 60 million so Villa, Dos Santos, Bojan and Affellay will all need to be sold, I think that would raise about 25 - 30 million on top of the 35 or so left in the transfer budget.

If Thiago leaves, what the club will need is a player who'll be OK with not playing a lot, since Fabregas will rotate with both Xavi and Iniesta as the first option. Not some big-shot. According to the rumors, Sergi Roberto will be that guy, and it makes sense, really.

We'll need someone to replace Xavi in the future, he's not getting any younger. Roberto's not that guy. Gundogan is. Get him and rotate him heavily with Xavi.

Roberto is dismal in Segunda, let alone Primera division. I don't understand how some people would actually be satisfied with Roberto succeeding Thiago as our main midfield talent.

Wouldnt mind Gundogan either, not as a starter, but someone to learn from Xavi. But we still need a CB..and if were getting that second attacker..

I am sorry but buying Gundogan makes no sense.

He wont go to a club to be second fiddle and sit out all of the big games when he has just won league titles and played in the CL Final. He has a nt poisition to look after also.

Why on earth would the club look to spend money on an area of the team that is well covered with players when there are other areas to be addressed?
