Transfers and Rumours - old thread

It's really hard to pick one of the two (ThiagoSilva/Marcos). Thiago Silva is an assurance of trophies and wins, he's very experienced but he's not an option for the future. On the other hand, Marcos is an option for the future, very talented, statistically not worse than TS. We would have a great time with ThiagoSilva but it'd last only 2/3 years. Marquinhos could become one of the best CBs in some time and we would have a great defender for many years.

he will be 29 when the season really gets going. buying players with their best years behind them is rarely clever. we havent succeeded well with 29 year olds like ibra for 70m, hleb for 16m and villa for 40m. the same logic was used then as now. "we need proven quality which will take us to the next level." I think we need to be a bit more rational than this.

Ibra left us 3 years ago and yet he's still world class, he might have had his best season ever, not everyone turns shit after their 30th birthday, Puyol was 31 when we won the CL in 2009.

If there's any way we could buy Silva and Marquinhos I'd splash the cash without blinking an eye. But it seems one transfer is bound to another. I'm fine with both of them but right now we need Silva more.

Who is a proven quality CB available right now? Not saying that Silva is available too..

i dont care for the label "proven". no one is proven in our system at all, regardless of age. the way our CBs operate are very different than other teams, hence why masche says he feels much more comfortable in defence than in midfield for us. players like ibra, hleb and villa struggled immensely despite having had many fine years behind them and given the "proven" label.

what i'm saying is that we need to buy players who are young enough to count on for several seasons and which actually have a sell-on value. players around 22-25 years of age. we should have a scout network able to find players of the right profile, age and price.

The fact that Ibra was world class and left for as little as 24m was a large part due to his age and wages.

It was a massive loss and they paid far to much for a player of his age when he signed.

The fact that Puyol and Ibra were world class at 31 does not matter.

There are plenty of examples the other way.

we should try to contact our scouts and ask what they are actually doing, if they are doing anything. the names being mentioned from super rich, high profile clubs suggest they are not doing anything, which is worrying.
