I believe that was one of the reasons the Champions League wasn't all that in the past. After UEFA injected more teams from the top leagues in the CL it has caught more attentions and found more excitement. Yes it's nice and all for the weaker sides to get into the GS of the CL for the money factor, but it also affect the quality of the competition.

It has to be free draw for every side, not favoring the weaker or stronger sides.

You're right there but many people still hold that romantic view of league champions facing off to be the ultimate champion and people were particular pissed with Arsenal basing their entire seasons on CL qualification for years but that being said European cup in the late 70's and 80's was a joke with Liverpool beating likes of Club Brugge in the final..:p

For a club in the EPL, getting into the CL, increases yearly revenue by 10 to 20%. For a club in Cyprus/Croatia/Denmark, getting into the CL increases your yearly revenue by as much as 400%.

Very bad analogy you attempted there.

You're forgetting the market pool system that is used to distribute prize money. From my estimation if EPL club reaches quarter final than they'll earn significantly more than if Scottish or Danish club reach Quarter finals...I'm not sure about this but EPL club may earn a lot more than even La liga clubs from this season if they do well...

they'll earn more and still the bump in revenue will be nothing comparable to smaller countries which is the point of the example... man anything BPL related and you're in the clouds

The perfect solution would be to force those teams to share CL revenue with the entire league but I don't see excluding the from the comepetetion altogether as the solution..also it's just fun to say anything positive about EPL here and look at the over the top reactions..

so United gets a free pass to the CL while the teams from the other 4 top leagues have to eliminate each other..

So you are trolling for fun ?
FYI, how in the world was your statement "positive" towards the BPL ? It just came across as entirely irrelevant.
Easy to spout wrong/absurd/off-topic stuff about your beloved BPL then act like people are reacting out of spite. Gosh this is so clueless. Just try to stay on topic if you're able to.

Not that specific statement but my other statements in general in threads that slag off EPL. someone in De Gea thread even dismissed his performance because it was in the inferior EPL..., I was just saying that CL money is a huge deal for EPL clubs too and the reason the likes of Liverpool struggle is because of lack of it...

That was just pure luck and had nothing to do with the system..We could've faced Lazio or Monaco in the draw..

Nah you were implying that starlord was actually wrong to pick such an example which he wasn't in the slightest. You really need to work on your phrasing if that's what the problem is (it isn't)
And just because you felt some people in a different thread were bashing the EPL for no reason ( which you mistakenly thought I was doing once already ) doesn't mean you should retaliate here.

I just pointed out that CL revenue wasn't that irrelevant to the EPL clubs and they do get a slightly higher piece of the pie based on how much british tv companies pay for Champions league rights. I was just pointing out that CL money isn't distributed equally and I didn't even dispute his original point which was that CL money creates monopolies in the weaker leagues. Just because I quoted him doesn't mean I was making an argument against him, I just pointed out that CL money is hugely relevant to EPL clubs because based on the latest TV deal if we had missed out last season than we could've fallen behind Liverpool for years because 60-70 million in revenue is a huge amount to miss out on...

Damn! but I was surprised to find out that they were in the European Cup final and lost against Liverpool..The mighty 5 times doesn't look that impressive to me now..

The new rules are awesome. Platini did a great job. You are a champion in your country, you have certain privileges in the Champions League. It's not only logical, it's also the way it has to be.

The entire top half of La Liga is probably better than some of the teams in Champions League, so what? You think the 10th best team in Spain deserves to be in Champions League ahead of the champions of the smaller leagues? The current format is perfectly fine. More interesting matchups from the get-go and lower leagues actually have a chance of climbing the rankings.
