I think you gotta put Vidic up there too. his performance today (making United's defence so solid despite Evans & Evra's attempts to do the opposite) was heroic and is something we're used to seeing from him. he's a fucking monster.

anyway, Rooney is the best player in the PL. until Silva or RVP (or Suarez or Aguero) do what he has done and lead their team to win Titles, they can't justifiably stake a claim. Rooney has been a vital playmaker in multiple Title winning sides, been the main goalscorer for Title challenging side, and been the main man in a Title winning side. he's done it all, repeatedly, for the last 6 years. none of the others has even managed to do it for a full season yet.

they may be performing better than anyone right now, especially Silva who is simply a joy to watch, but unless you play for a small side, you need to keep your team in the hunt for trophies if you wanna stay recognised as even one of "the best."

I suspect by the time the Euros roll around, Silva will have taken the crown from Rooney, but y'never know.

although I really want to see RVP stay fit for a full season. see if he can keep up his magnificent goalscoring ratio or whether he'll suffer a dip in form.

Being the best player is not about so much about how many titles you have won, simply because we are dealing with a team sport. It is very often the case that one player is absolutely brilliant, but thanks to the weakness of his teammates, he cannot win shit.

Let's take RvP for example... What must he do to win the Prem with the current Arsenal? Whereas United has a much better shot at winning it. Can we then say that welbeck is a better player than RvP just because he won the Prem and RvP did not?

Or in another example, Materazzi won the WC, Messi, Cruyff, DiStefano, Puskas, Zico, Socrates, Maldini, Baggio did not. Does that make Materrazi a better player than all those other guys.

If you ask me, it is probably the exact opposite. A player like RvP is worth more praise than players (strikers in this case) of other stronger teams, for his ability to shine whilst playing with lesser teammates.

I didn't know John Terry was Dutch?

This Terry hating is too cheap. You may not like the man ( I do not like him either) but I find this whole shitstorm a bit childish.

Things a million times worse from whatever JT ever did or said or currently happening, and very few bother to even mention them. I can provide examples. This whole Terry thing, is for me a form of displacement.

Best player in the PL for me, he's carrying Arsenal atm, taking the burden from Cesc.

We'll feel it when he gets his yearly injury, love the bloke though.

._. is that supposed to be shoulder brushing?

(I wasn't serious about the 'racist scum' part, but the facepalm remains)

Even if anyone was offended, he scored a hat trick, he'll get away with it. He's one of the EPL darlings right now.

I'm sure most Chelsea fans are crying right now... but he wasn't being racist. He took Chelsea apart.

He scored 3 beautiful goals.

Firstly and most importantly he's a dutchman, so why would he even consider doing that considering the german-dutch history. So and I have seen that celebration before it is something else.

He probably didn't, but it's still very, very stupid.

I think he thought of it as an roman salute (which the nazis copied) or probably a fascist salute (which is pretty much the same).

There seems to be no real proof that the roman salute was ever used in ancient Rome, but it's very often used by fascists and nazis.

Very strange.
