like FCBarca said, they ARE sister clubs. Did you know that Joan Gamper played for Basel? he was captain, and according to wiki he was a founder of FC Basel. You can also find this in the nou camp:

proud to support basel and barca!

what do you mean by 'cant make it into the europe?'.

just read that sanchez earns 1.7M /year. that means he's the most expensive player in the history of the super league! lol how unreal is this, xamax is not a big club at all, they had 5'000 visitors/game last year! crazy billionaire!

I mean CL

They compete pretty regularly in CL, if for no other reason than they tend to be in contention for the Swiss Super League crown each season...They're just not equipped let alone motivated to challenge for the CL cup, IMO...Too much money is needed to compete with the biggest clubs in general and Basel focuses on their league...They have a strong fan base, like Barca's, and are backed by Novartis money (i.e. endless supply) so conceivably they could try to compete with the big clubs - I just don't think it's the club's ambitions to do so on a regular basis

I also think in order to compete at the top in the CL, your domestic league needs to be of a sound quality. The Swiss league just isn't unfortunately

It's a small league for a small country, I think it's more an issue of ambition in truth...Some leagues simply aren't geared towards European success...The money is there to do it obviously but it's part of the charm, IMO, about the Suisse...I just don't think they have the interest to make Europe a priority like the usual big clubs

Kooky ownership continues to defy all logic in a country where there's a low tolerance level for absurdity...<meta charset="utf-8">Neuchatel Xamax fire entire coaching staff after two games

The entire Neuchatel Xamax coaching staff (Switzerland) was sacked only after two matches on orders from its owner, Chechen Bulat Chagaev. Manager Sonny Anderson, French coach Francois Ciccolini and other trainers were fired right after a 2-0 defeat to Swiss Super League champions FC Basel.

This is not the first string of dismissals and changes in the club. Chechen businessman Bulat Chagaev has already dismissed two Neuchatel coaches, fired the club’s entire administrative staff and waved goodbye to all sponsors in a few months, since he took over at the club in May. The Neuchatel Xamax major stakeholder has ambitious plans to put the club into the Champions League.

<meta charset="utf-8">The Banque Cantonale Neuchateloise was one of the sponsors to part company with Neuchatel, saying in statement: "The arrival of new directors has installed a climate of uncertainty and a lot of recent decisions do not correspond to the ethics, values and image which BCN stands for."...Tissot is a local watchmaker from the area and have long been a part of the club's history...Tissot's contract ended with the club in June but additionally made it clear they had no intention to continue citing the uncertain atmosphere of the club under the new management...Also cited a dictatorial management

Coach Didier Olle-Nicole was fired on May 12, the day the club was sold to Chagaev, and his replacement Bernard Challendes was dismissed three weeks later after the team escaped relegation but lost to Sion in the Swiss Cup final...Chagaev was also reported to burst into the halftime lockerroom to admonish his players...A scuffle had broken out between the keeper & Chagaev - soon the keeper was cut

Gets worse too, apparently Chagaev burst into the dressing room during their recent draw with Lausanne, accompanied by armed bodyguards - threatening the players...On one level you want to win, but on a more basic level you just want to live

Caparros who took over for the last threatened and sacked manager is close to resigning as well

How on earth this ridiculousness continues to go on in Suisse is hard to comprehend...I expect the Suisse government to intervene in the future and wrestle control away from this mobster

wow, that´s pretty psychopatic

They lost their longtime local sponsor and are effectively the joke of the country, constantly talked about in the media...There are other foreign owners in the country but I suspect legislation is being considered to keep owners local - or at least sane

Suisse federation finally stepped in and shut down Xamax & their Chechen thug of an owner...So players are free to move on...Victor Sanchez is returning to Barcelona but will be playing for Asspanyol, signed a 3.5 year contract
