dalitis,
No league with clubs with some reputation has shitter management than La Liga and Serie A. There is nothing to be jealous about.

It is not Barca's fault if the Valencia administration tanked the club, or if Atleti are ruled by idiots.

And from all these other leagues that you mention, just which one is better than La Liga?

Just because you lived somewhere, it does not follow that you are right about everything to do with that place. When did knowledge become a matter of where one has lived?

Is a cretin living in LA more qualified to opine on films rather than a renowned film critic living in Vienna?
Well when you are commenting on the situation in a given place, then obviously it does. Especially as in this case, where you have repeatedly demeaned the value of La Liga in favour of the CL, yet you are now trying to paint yourself as an expert on it.

And I cant think of any renowned Hollywood film critics living in Vienna now that you mention it. Or any La Liga pundits slumming it in Cyprus for that matter.

Er it's not exactly about Atletico and Valencia. They'll pretty much get the same amount of money with or without the collective TV revenue. It's the relegation fighting teams that don't get remotely close to enough money for proper management.

It isn't but Barca are taking advantage of it not giving a fuck and simply using the money they get with no awareness of how shit that league has become. Why would they care? They got lucky they brought Messi to La Masia, they let Iniesta out of the cage and they raised Cesc and Pique while making signings that would change the history of La Liga (Eto'o, Ronaldinho) while watching how other clubs struggle to fight debts.

Being strong doesn't give Barca the right to hog the money and eventually make the league bankrupt, because they got lucky with how things turned out for them.

And neither it does for Madrid, except that they simply were a massive club for years and years earning money in a different way.

I did not say that I am a La Liga expert. I just said that even though it is true that La Liga is two-horse race, it is still preferable than Bundesliga or Serie A, that even though are more competitive, do not have teams of true world-class quality.

As for demeaning the value of La Liga vis a vis the CL, then that has absolutely nothing to do with my knowledge of La Liga, it is just a statement of the obvious. (The CL is infinitely more important than any domestic league, this is a non-issue)

As for the issue of location and knowledge, well, allow me to say that irrespectively of where you have occasionally lived, you get your football predictions all wrong.

I don't think that is correct, not sure about Atleti's numbers, but I seem to remember Valencia's last TV contract was worth 40M compared to Barca's at 160M (which I think increased again this summer no?)

You can't attribute everything done successfully to luck and unsuccessfully to bad management and improvidence

It is 40 million, but then again Manchester United get something like 60 million and I can't see La Liga getting anywhere close to that much.

In very broad terms, I would say the following rules should be enforced for European football to become better.

1) A maximum of 3 foreign players. (naturalised citizens would also count as foreigners)

2) A 50% squad requirement for club-raised players to be made mandatory.

3) Salary caps

*That is more than enough I guess, in fact the first rule on its own would make things all over Europe exceedingly more fair and interesting.

First rule has been done before, there's a reason why it's no longer around.

Edit: Actually it was maximum of three foreign player in the starting eleven. So maximum of 3 foreign players in the squad is an even worse idea.

Well, there are thousands of reasons for that rule to be brought back.

Like what? For Barcelona to continue their dominance?

You realize, if such a rule were to exist the big bullies of a league would simply take all the quality domestic players from smaller teams. Which would inflate their prices as well, similar to how overpriced English players are at the moment. It's not a good idea.

But in Barca's case it's mostly correct. Even in Gaspart era they had talented players, some of them being enormously overrated, but still they had talent to be able to keep up with the champions. However, management was tragically rubbish and club declined from being one of the best in europe in 1990s to being the mediocre European club and local choker. What did it take to get back? Make good signings and hope that the players from La Masia rise to the challenge. It sure did take some luck, not all, but again, it's correct assumption to think so.

Look at rule "C".

And even if what you are describing were to actually happen, then it would still be preferable than the current of situation of teams like those Arsenal and Chelski that are filled with foreigners. If Chelski, Citeh and Arsenal were allowed to only have 3 foreigners each, then they would not even dream about bullying Europe.

Well that is kind of the point, Manchester United are the most watched team in England, yet they receive nearly a 3rd of what Barca and Madrid get if the figure you are quoting there is correct. Its not about an even distribution of TV rights, but narrowing the gulf between them. Obviously if you have 2 clubs in a league getting sums in the 100's of millions, then the majority of the rest not even getting into the 10's of millions, its a monopoly situation. So much so if Barcelona and Real Madrid where in such market dominance in say banking or supermarket retail, they would be broken up under competition laws. Narrowing that gulf is needed to stimulate competition in a league - which Rosell and Perez acknowledged even, going so far as to even offer up some of their shares last year when Del Nido was threatening strikes.

But TV money isn't even the biggest problem here. Like Roig was commenting, its the cosy relationship to the banks Madrid and Barca have that is really making it impossible for all other clubs.
