Donovan may have made the impossible, but Honda Keisuke has the influence of Messi for Japan. Not only that, he's scored a couple goals, too. So Honda has my vote.

I agree, but Donovan, beyond the goal, also have is influence in the team...

messi all the way.
hopefully fifa will acknowledge his contributions instead of just looking at who scored the most and handing him an award

btw, why is xavi or yaya or pique up?

I am going with Edward. Forlan it is. He is a make shift AM and has done incredibly well for his nation.

This is not exactly about the best performers, but some of the players I've been impressed(apart from the usual ones) with are:-
Honda, Lee Chung-Yong, Haruna, Coentrao, Khedira(knew him from Stuttgart matches but still...), Isla, Efrain Juarez, Alex Sanchez, Montolivo, Bradley, etc no particular order

Don't pick messi just because he is the best in the world, taking all into account Villa played a more vital role for spain , so he is without a doubt the best performer so far.

EVERY Argentina attack goes through Messi. Watch his every move with Argentina carefully because you don't see such things often in life.

fabio coentrao has really impressed me so far being a player who i was not really familiar with before hand...maicons been good too...sanchez has been lively....enyeama looked quality until his blunder didnt see their last game though

ive been disappointed with messi to be honest might be controversial around here but i was expecting big things from him yeah hes been good enough but not on top form by his standards maybe i was just expecting too much

ronaldo is another one who has disappointed me hes been crap though unlike messi except for about 20 minutes where he did ok

my team of the tournament so far:
------------------------------Tzorvas(Greece)
Maicon(Brasil)---Alcaraz(Paraguay)--Boughera(Algeria)--Coentrao(Portugal)
----------------------------Khedira (Germany)
-------Donovan(USA)-------Messi(Argentina)--------Honda(Japan)
----------------------Vittek(Slovakia)---Villa(Spain)

subs: Forlan (Uruguay), W.Reid (N. Zealand), Ozil (Germany), Ji Sung (S. Korea), Lucio (Brasil)

My choice is based on the players influence and importance for the team, FIFA stats, my observations and way of playing. :)

You are right about Coentrao(I singled him out from the very first game)but you are totally wrong on Messi...everything,that is to say EVERYTHINGArgentina have done in an attacking sense revolved around Messi...the fact that he has not scored yet is simply due to rotten luck(twice hit the post)but it is irrelevant since he has single-handedly created most of the Argentine goals....

*Your Gunner players have all sunk into the bottom of the ocean though:wave:(except maybe the amazing Cesc who may be given a starting berth against Portugal since Xabi is slightly injured and Van Persie)

Villa in pure goal-scoring, Messi in playmaking and goal-creating capabilities.

Honda is becoming a pleasant surprise also.

Honda is cool...his move against the Danes for the 3rd goal was something you would expect from Leo or Andres...
