Wow, that's the lineup I wanted to see for the past year. Gago, Mascherano, Di María, Messi, Higuaín and Agüerro all playing from the start. Should be exciting but could also very well be another catastrophe.

It looks like it's working pretty well from what I have seen. Sure there is inbalance and you can clearly say that they are not used to play that way but it's better than all those other shitty lineups Sabella has used.

This has been a magnificent first half from the top 4. Just magnificent. Defense and midfield is questionable but enjoy it while it lasts.

I think the defence has stood up reasonably well, albeit against a fairly poor side. They're certainly an improvement on the side that played in the Copa America.

Super anti-Argentine ref. He should have handed out some 4 yellows to Ecuador so far. So far only Argentina got one (was it 1?) for a very dubious foul.

The only hope in seeing this side actually challenge against the best of the best lies in the hands of another midfielder, except they are Banega and Sosa. I have a little hope in Banega coming of age (maybe he needs a bar mitzvah?), none what so ever in Sosa but this formation is easily changed to bring in another midfielder, it is exciting. One more reasonable midfielder who is disciplined and Argentina is safe. Maybe insert Tevez and bring Di Maria more back? That would be major trolling.

Argentina needs fluidity. Too many passes into awkward directions or players struggling to get into positions.

Gago's skill set is exactly what Argentina needs, there is no point in abandoning the double pivot when you want to protect all those magnificent forwards, and his finesse game is a nice compliment to Mascherano, plus unlike some of the alternatives he knows his place. Shame he's made of glass and a pansy.

Man if Aguero plays like this all the time, he'd be top 3 players in the world. His energy is keeping this side in so much balance. Well when I advocated for today's lineup one year ago I always said that Mascherano was boud to play together with either Gago or Banega otherwise they could just as well field Messi alone. I also like him as a player to be honest. But he is not as good as Cambiasso. A shame that the latter is too old now to be used on the long run.

Raed: Agree. Now you know why I am a Agüerro fanboy. As amazing as Higuaín is a pure poacher he has nothing on Agüerro when it comes to overall play or the level of entertaining. Imagine if he improved his play in front of goal? Scary thought.
