Since those "top x players" lists mostly contain attacking players, I've split them in two categories - star and key players. Key players are normally not star players (you could argue that at some clubs one player is both) but still are of the same importance to the team or even more important. The one that makes a team tick. You could also more or less say the key players are the unsung heros, which fits perfectly for more defensive type of players.
