Who would perform better: Pep's Messi in Lucho's Barca or Lucho's Messi in Pep's Barca?

Which combination would perform better?

  • Pep's Messi (2009-2012) in Lucho's Barca (2015-2017)

  • Lucho's Messi (2015-17) in Pep's Barca (2009-2012)

Interesting thought experiment.

Pep's Barca were almost invincible, 2/4 CLs, 3/4 LLs. Yet, still beatable. Would a more rounded version of Messi help or deter the team?

Other way around, Lucho's Barca won everything in 2014/15, then gradually fell off the following years. Would a more energized version of Messi changed history?

Well it's RW Messi vs CF Messi.

If you'd move RW Messi to Pep era the CF would be Eto'o, Villa or Ibra.
If you'd move CF Messi to Lucho era there would be no RW in that team. Suarez? Pedro?

So I think it's really a matter of the players around him. That's why I think 2015 Messi would fit Pep era better, because otherwise Suarez would have to be moved.

Lucho's Messi already played in Pep's team in 2009, so easy, the team managed by Pep is simply superior. Pep's Messi post Eto'o is too fluid and complex in terms of his position and roles, for a manager like Lucho (very much on the conservative side) to make it function as intended.

Not sure but this is an interesting question, nice work.

I do feel his absolute peak was under Pep but he was still immense and best of all time material under Enrique.

It's a loaded question that is difficult to answer.
