Who is the best/greatest player ever? This is my first poll ever so dont judge me

It‘s a NBA thing…People know that Jordan is the GOAT, because he had the best achievements/stats/rings etc.

But others want to call LeBron the GOAT. Deep inside they know it is wrong, so they, along with others who are caught in the middle of the debate, call MJ the GOAT and LeBron the BOAT. Meaning that he may not have had the best career etc, but played basketball the most complete way.

Then there is also the DOAT :lol: That means „most dominant of all time“ :lol: It is usually appointed to Shaq or Wilt to show complete dominance,but for a shorter period of time :lol:

3 peat.. where he was decisive in one year of the finals/semi finals in the other one he didnt score in semis or finals either. So much more than his goals that won those for Real.

Why does winning them as a 'three peat' for largely same side count for more than Messi taking four very different Barca teams to the CL?

I would agree he is the best CL scorer of all time and would agree best CL player also.

Why does Messi not having the far better club career count for anything?

Why does Messi not being player of tournament in the Copa America and World Cup count for anything while Ronaldo has never been?

As said.. saying Messi is 'best' but Ronaldo 'greatest' is said to ignore certain facts but home in on specfic areas can claim he is better.

But he won 5 to Messi's 4 and Messi only played against Chelsea in 06 so your regular Cristiano fan would argue he's ahead 5-3 in most important comp.

Nah its 5-4 and Messi was best player in 06 v Chelsea and was decisive against that side held up as possibly best in tournament. See what Mourinho has to say on that.

It is 5-4 and that is one comp. On everything else Messi is far better and achieved more.

Messi never really had a team in CL that would get him through the tougher ties when poor. Ronaldo had that in 3 of his 4 finals for Real and 3 of his 4 semi finals.

They also played one another x3 times in CL and Messi was better in all three ties.

We have an incorrigible habit of revising sports history, and of glorifying the past to the point where the present can never measure up. Which is why somehow, unfathomably, indefensibly, unconscionably, there isn’t yet a consensus that Lionel Messi is the best football player of all time.
