Definitely the length and intensity of the season IMO. The top players at the big clubs are playing so many games it's crazy. They've then got to hit top form and energy levels again for a WC at the end. Such a shame so many players are missing out.

Human evolution. Our bodies are not perfect. Yes up till now we're adapted to football well and can play the sport, but gradually our bodies might get weaker and intolerant to that amount of exercise and tension. This is a very early sign. Football in some decades or if lucky in about a hundred years will become nonexistent unless human biological breakthroughs can find the adequate methods to counter it. Otherwise, in few years, football federation will have to cope with our bodily changes by setting new rules, as fewer games in a season, increase field players by one or two and decreasing field length to conserve energy, and eventually decreasing the match length by 20, 30, 40 minutes ...all that gradually in the path leading to football's abolishment.

In my opinion...players get injured because they are "enhanced"by substances that drive their performances over and above what their bodies can take....

It's kinda ironic that you're talking about the long seasons and stuff like this, but most of the stars were actually injured in a direct physical contact.

Ballack, Drogba, Ferdinand?

And Nani injured himself, while he tried to do a bicycle kick

Most of these guys just didn't have luck. Rio Ferdinand mostly, because he had to practice alongside Emile Heskey.
