Why was Tata so bad?

Hilarious that a crap Barca would have nearly won ll against the two cl finalists, won both el clasicos in league and should have won the last match against Atletico

@soul24rage what was the result of the first game vs Atletico, cant remember it anymore🤔🤔

There were a lot of reasons, but the most important one being that he was never a great coach.

How long has Tata Martino been a manager for and how many trophies has he won?

The worst season in the 2010s.

Many players were in decline/injured, Messi was injured and demotivated, there were many scandals (iirc Rossel went to jail  ), Tito died and Tata was not qualified for the job.

The end-result flatters us. We got KOed pretty badly by Atleti in the CL. In the league, we failed time and time again to build a lead during the second half of the season against Atleti and Real who were also fighting for the CL, only to lose the title in the Camp Nou.

Btw a sum of 87 points was considerably low for the time, back then you needed 95 points to win the title.

tbf Tata was great in 2016 with Argentina, his Copa run until final was amazing

in final he made the big mistake to replace his best big-game player (Di Maria) in 57th min

he forgot that Higgy and Screwmessi cant't score without Di maria
:pique:

overall likeable dude, just not the guy for the big teams

If I remember correctly, Tata wanted us to play counterattack considering our difficulties on defense and the team didn’t believe in it. I think Xavi in a press conference even buried the coach saying that the approach should be tiki taka and nothing else, only in the subsequent years under subsequent coaches to embrace the same tactic but with a much inferior defensive players ( age )

that was peak Tata football

if i remember we had less ball posession than the opponent but still won 4-0 siu

Was against Rayo dude

2013-14 was like a considerably older and drained version of 2012-13, which was not great to begin with.

A more interesting question would be:

What if Tito had stayed healthy? I am not talking about the long-term, rather than just for that season.

We pretty much collapsed in the second part of the season under Roura (and ofc under immense emotional pressure due to the circumstances), culminating in the devastating loss against Bayern.

However, we started the season pretty decently, though we never played electrifying football like under Pep.

It's ofc only presumptions but i dont think even a healthy Tito would have been the solution

It's true that Barca was terrific in first half of 12/13 but dont forget:

- we played 4 years under Pep, the team doesnt forget how to play suddenly if you also consider we had Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, Alves, Busi

- Messi was in terms of output in a monster-form, had 2-3 scorer points per game

but who knows maybe Tito would have become a worldclass coach, we will never know it. Sure is Roura was cleary overwhelmed with the situation when he replaced Tito.

Agreed, though I would not call the first part of the season terrific. We were very effective but did not play great football like under Pep.

Messi had his best goalscoring season ever, but his dribbling and creation of chances was subpar to his standards.

He sucked because VAR wasn't a thing.

That and the Catalans hadn't had their snobbish ways beat out of them, and didn't accept 4-0 wins if possession was under 60%.
