Most teams tend to have a clear plan with a capable Sporting Director. Won't say much about Abidal as he joined recently, but Pep Segura is the constant here, he's literally the GM of the Sporting Section of Barca and has an input from the 1st team all the way down to La Masia Juvenil B.

Barca seem to have gone into the last couple of summers not knowing exactly what to do.

There seems to be an idea but execution of the plan keeps blowing up in their faces.

Neymar last year and Griezmann this year. We wouldn't be going after Willian if we got Griezmann.

Well I suppose you can say he requested those two players. A manager can request certain players, but the club should not listen to all of their wishes as a Barca manager usually doesn't last more than three years, and with Valverde I have doubts about him continuing after this season regardless of how it goes.

If he wants a direct winger you could look at Florian Thauvin who got the pace and dribbling ability to fit in. Also plays on the right side. Scored 22 goals and had 11 assists in Ligue 1 last season.

Was in the French WC squad. 25 years old. Perhaps he would be available for 40-50m.

There are some options there. None of them your fancy superstars, but could argue they're a lot more reasonable than Willian.

What we are arguing about? He is fucking 30 year old inconsistent player. Potentially 80m is beyond idiotic. People who made this decision should be fired from the job. I think he's a good player. My problems are the price and the age. In short, too old and too expensive. He's not a bad player and he's pretty quick and technical. He should've been 27 at most to see this as sort of a decent deal. 70m. for a 30 year old player who's not that special is just stupid. Makes Ronaldo to Juventus seem a great deal. At least Ronaldo is arguably the best player in the world.
