Xavi won't go anywhere next summer. If he leaves, it'd be in 2015 or 2016. Not now. Losing Xavi and Valdes at once would not be good.

With all respect for xavi, maybe Its time for him to leave. He is not the player he once was, and he is just getting weaker. It would hurt to see one of the best midfielders of all time on the bench for a season or two. Xavi is smart with a brilliant understanding of the game, in some years he can come back and coach the team. I hope he leave room for a player such as gundogan, and thus also younger barcaplayers like sergi and rafinha. I think xavi also understands that the world cup coming up Will be his last tournament with spain, a fantastic career is coming to an end, and a new coaching career is soon to begin.

I dont see the contradiction between saying Its maybe best for xavi too leave, and beeing a supporter. This is how football works, the best have to play. Thats what makes Barca Barca. Every fotball supporter respects xavi - the legend. But is it wise to let him stay and play just because he is xavi. Of course, he can play one more season, but the most probably we Will see a much weaker xavi? Would you like that, would xavi? Xavi is a club player, he knows best, lets see what he does.

Xavi was as poor as Cesc today, I think he even lost the ball more often than Cesc but of course no one talks about it.

I was blasted on this forum early last season for suggesting that our midfield of Xavi, Iniesta and Cesc has actually become our weakness

The thing is that Xavi is 34 and hasn't been himself for quite some time now, while Cesc is in his prime and has played very well this season so naturally, expectations are much higher for him.

I agree with you that our midfield has been our weakness for the past few seasons; neither our defense nor our attack have gotten proper support from the midfield but people blamed those two areas because it is much easier to spot the flaws there.

We should make it our number one priority next summer to sign a replacement for him as he is probably the weakest link in a team where he plays in the most important position.

I'm all for passing the torch considering Xavi's age. But please not to Fabregas in central midfield areas. :icon_neutral: The club better have a pre-deal with someone like Gündogan wrapped up. Going into the next season with only Fabregas and Iniesta as senior central midfielders would be foolish. Iniesta staying healthy shouldn't be taken for granted for starters. He's fragile. He's only injury-free in recent times.

Of course another midfielder should be brought in if he leaves but Fabregas should still be considered a starter. I want Xavi to stay and he probably will but I feel for Cesc who has done everything possible this season to be considered a start yet when it comes to the big games with everyone fully fit he'll probably be on the bench.

Cesc has disappeared in the big games ever since he came here so it's justified if he doesn't play in them.

As much as I'd like Xavi to retire at Barca it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Cesc will finally get the chance to establish himself as the main centre midfielder. As long as Xavi is around his reputation will see him start games that he probably shouldn't and Cesc deserves the chance to cement his place. If Xavi was to leave he might even have that in mind, recognising that it's time for him to pass on the torch.

Do you really think Cesc can replace Xavi? I love Cesc, but they are different types of players.

I am stating to panicking when I saw Sky Italia is reporting that. Who, who can replace Xavi? Roberto is not good enough. Gundogan is a long shot and very unlikely. Rafa Alcantara?

Thought he looked a shadow of his old self on the night, tbh...We have grown so accustomed to him bossing the midfield that when he can't dictate the tempo, it's hard to comprehend...It's the area of the midfield that needs the most help, a box to box midfielder that can move the ball vertically under pressure rather than continue to move backwards...It routinely blunted most attacks on the night

Xavi actually did run the midfield when Barça had the ball, and did as well as anybody else under Atletico's pressure when moving the ball from back to front. As far as through balls, I can't recall a single time there was any Barça player making a run in behind that he didn't see, or saw and chose to ignore- there simply weren't any, which was to be expected given how Atletico defends. It wasn't just Xavi- WhoScored shows Barça as a team attempted *ZERO* through balls the entire game. The team was clearly instructed to attack Juanfran down the left, with Pedro, Alba, and Iniesta being the focus.

Xavi is irreplaceable it will be a great loss if he leaves in this summer. He should retire at barca, if we lose xavi, puyol and valdes at same time i will be devastated. I am worried with all these rumours first xavi comes and says he may not retire at barca and then rosell praises xavi as if he is retired already and then some reports saying new york red bulls almost completed the deal. This is not something to let go of easily it is xavi we are talking about who played almost 700 times for barca.

Hope he retires at barca and become a great coach like pep.

Of course Xavi is replaceable... and why would you be devastated? Puyol doesn't play anymore anyway, Xavi isn't the same he was in recent years and Valdes will be replaced by a great player that ter Stegen is.

Those three are club legends, one club players until now. I will be emotionally devasted. Who will not miss those three?
