Mata is probably the worst option out there. Hasn't performed well in 2 years and is an AM primarily. That's pretty awful trolling, Mido.

Song was amazing at Arsenal, his performances at Barca were extremely average. Your logic doesn't prove anything...

To replace Xavi? Mata is not an MC.

he already played there and showed he can play wonderfully there. Xavi was a defensive midfielder at the beginning. Rijkaard and Aragones knew how to bring the best out of him. I give them a lot of credit for that.

When did mata play there?

And we are buying a player to play a position he doesn't even play?

I guess Xavi wanted to send a message to Enrique and the club. He was unjustly benched while he was performing very well in La Liga.

2015/2016 without Alves/Pedro/Xavi would be extremely hard. Koke would have already played in the Champions League if we are crazy enough to buy him for 60 million euros.

Buying Mata for 30 million euros for 4-5 years would be by faaaaaar more profitable and efficient.

40 millions is the limit for a central midfielder. I can't see any midfielder that reaches the talent of a Zidane, Iniesta(in his prime), Xavi, Pirlo ( in his prime). I don't think Pogba fits to Barca. I would prefer to see him at Manchester , Chelsea or even Arsenal.

xavi prime is a legend, we agree on that part.

however, enrique is on course for a double or treble (with some luck) without much involvement from xavi, so i don't think he cares about whatever "message" xavi may be conveying according to you.

Enrique is winning and that's what matters the most. Still, when we win , for instance ,against a certain type of strong teams we suffer a lot more than we used to ( Valencia ; Real Madrid ).

With more than 750 official games in his feet, and entering his 36th year of life, Xavi can't be a fix starter. My point is that , as of today, Xavi proved to bring more to the game than his competitor : Iniesta.

Seeing El Pelopo play 45 minutes in our 4 confrontations with PSG and City is , all in all, irrational. He should have started the 1st match against PSG and had to enter the pitch when we were leading 0-2 at the City stadium and things started to heat up in our defense.

In an/my ideal world, Xavi would have the "Iniesta" role this season and he would then become our "luxury sub" for the 2015/2016 season with Iniesta playing more.

I like Iniesta as a person and he has already proven to be one of football's best players in history. He might be better at defending this season but that's it.

I don't think that Iniesta is the type of guy that will start to whine like Neymar because he gets benched sometimes. I believe that this would encourage him to fight hard for his place in the starting 11.

Another possible issue that I wanted to raise : how come does Iniesta show signs of decline whereas he is only 31 ? I know boxing is not football, but when you see true professional athletes such as Floyd Mayweather or , even better, Wladimir Klitschko approaching their 40's while being at the top of their game, and with the great progress made in sports science, a modern elite football player (apart from the wingers maybe) should deliver elite performance at least till he's 33-34.

I have 3 assumptions : 1- Iniesta doesn't have the appropriate lifestyle to continue improving in his 30's
2- Enrique's instructions give the impression that Iniesta is limited
3- This may be a pure motivational/mental issue

I hesitate between 1- and 3-, 1- being true would be a total shame, 3- can be fixed if he has a genuine willpower.
