he needs to slowly be transitioned into the starting lineup. start off with la liga next season and make the final ucl transition the following season. real did the same thing with varane and pepe.

there's no reason why a guy this talented should be rotting on the bench for a defender who's only excels with the ball at his feet (which both umtiti and mina are good at). pique's vocal but he's not a leader/captain like ramos so there'd be no considerable loss

He really looks like a generational talent in the air. Magnetic to the ball in the box and it takes something rare to win an aerial duel against him. Would be huge for us to have such a safety on defensive set pieces/crosses and such a consistent threat on offensive set pieces.

The problem is and always has been defensive footwork. Even now looking at him late in this ET he got worked by Vardy 1v1 a couple of times, once fouled him but didn't get called. Or late recovery on quick transition attacks (and positioning problems in general).

Honestly Pique needs to step up and help teach him in this regard. He himself is slow as fuck but he's made up for it over his career with good positioning and good footwork to cut off space. It doesn't have to be a deal-breaker for Mina if he develops well.
