According to this logic, Pep after the best Barca team and generation of all times, should have stayed at home for ever, because 'what motivation' right? Subpar jobs all of them compared to the Barca job.

Pep`s stint at Barcelona ended with losing domestic title vs. Madrid, while in Cl being beaten by Chelsea. He cited tiredness and being in Barca for 4 seasons what he felt was "eternity". As result he took a year off, and later returned coaching Bayern. Zidane meanwhile was coaching RM - a job that i rate higher than Barca, and did the unprecedented.

People have different motivations. Also, football landscape is constantly changing. Post Heyneckess Bayern was absolutely stellar. Easiest job possible. Petro - dollars in Premiership another top tier destination. Nothing sub-par about it. Clearly Zidane wants that NT job. Meanwhile, he enjoys life. Stellar.

It's obvious that what drives coaches is the challenge-> new club, new league, new culture, desire to prove yourself at another environment, to put more trophies in your resume, to leave a legacy ETC ETC
Think about Zidane in particular: so many people, including me, think he is a fraud and rode huge amount of luck/black magic to win those CLs. Why doesn't he want to prove people wrong about it?

Challenge is only one aspect among others. Besides, you don`t need to venture to another country, club, etc... to experience "challenge". Ferguson, did not have the need to go beyond United - easiest example.

As for Zidane. The answer is easy actually, especially in case of Cule base which represents 90% of such rhetoric. If he did the same with Barca, you would be praising him. While the rest, it comes down to people simply hate the best. Tons of people also contest Guardiola, with the same stupid arguments as you are displaying.

When he left RM the 1st time, he was among the hottest names in Europe for the vacant jobs at top teams.
Now, you rarely see his name mentioned or rumoured for those jobs. He has himself belittled his fame so much by just preferring to sit at his home for 3 years, rather than take the minimal necessary risk of being exposed at the highest level.

Your entire notion rests on false assumption. That being a coward. He does not need to prove himself anymore to anybody, let alone a zealot on Barcaforum who operates with terms such as "voodoo magic / luck".

Not to overly praise a Real Madrid legend on a Barcelona forum, but he was one of my footballing heroes as a child.

I have gone off him a bit since managing Real Madrid and licking Cristiano Ronaldo's arsehole a bit much, but he remains one of the best midfielders/attacking midfielders I have ever seen.

The thing about Zidane is everything he did looked so effortless and at ease (unlike for example C Ronaldo). He never looked like he was trying ultra-hard, like many of today's athletes - his game was pure poetry - vision, high football IQ, great passing, producing genius moments. He had that ability to always look like he always had so much time and space and was playing a different game to most others on the pitch, something all the greats have - Messi has it too.

He was an absolute genius. Until Messi came along, Zidane and R9 (and Ronaldinho too maybe) were the best players I had watched since I had just about been old enough to watch the final part of Maradona's career.

There's a line of thought these days that Zidane was overrated or gets too much credit. While it's true that he coasted in a lot of run of the mill games, and the Galacticos should have won more than they did, he was the man for the big occasion. I think those who think he's very overrated probably prize stats and the sheer science of winning over watching a true artist at work. He won't get you 50 goals a season like prime C Ronaldo, but he's more talented and far more fun to watch. Guys like him are what football is all about.

People remember more of Zidane best moments than his average/worst. He was inconsitent at club level. That's why he won total of 3 league tittle with wealthy, strong teams like Juventus and RM. But usually showed up for his country.

Zidane is an artist though. I think now only Pedri has that trait.

Yeah I said that.

I believe that football is beauty/art, and that teams that win (or even don't win) with style and great football are superior and worth more than teams who win playing bollocks football. That's why Zidane embodies a lot of why I love football, even though other players might have been more successful at club level.

This carries over to my own football playing. I obviously want to win too, but at my much lower level, I like to entertain spectators too (even though I am much older now).

I love players like Zidane, R9, Ronaldinho, Platini, Hagi, Xavi, Messi, Stoitchkov, Romario, Baggio, Totti, Redondo, Del Piero, Iniesta, Modric, Rivaldo, Zico etc

Basically players who make you wanna pay the entrance fee to a stadium.
