Alves is hardly a "defensive player". In fact, seeing as stamina and pace were huge parts of his game back in his prime, I'd say age affects him more than most players.

It really does suck for him. Most likely scenario is that he ends up like Keirrison/Henrique, meaning he plays few to no games for Barca and just keeps getting loaned, having his career ruined like the other 2.

RM have the opposite problem we do. We're too reluctant to bench/sell/replace guys like Xavi, Alves etc even when they're in clear decline. RM on the other hand are too eager to throw away key players for shiny new toys (Di Maria for Rodriguez).
