I think Ter Stegen has stagefright or something like that.
He overcame it at Barca but it took some time because CL and Cup games were not regular, but for the NT he still lacks experience as he has played just a few games in total.
There's no way he would've done that msitake nowadays in a Barca jersey. Problem is that he will never be capped regular for the NT for as long as Neuer is playing, so there is very little point in nominating him as it would probably take like 30 games minimum before he gets used to the nationalteam.

So does tS, which is the only reason he even participates in this.
You were the one who suggested he doesn't appreciate it enough to muster the necessary concentration. No other 2nd or 3rd choice GK has put in such an array of shit performances for the national team.

If he can't concentrate for whatever reason he shouldn't be there. This "no one but Neuer will play anyway" is nonsense. Ahead of the world cup Neuer got injured and until the last days before the tournament started it wasn't certain whether he would be able to play. Had that shoulder not healed in record time, Neuer would have travelled home, and Ter Stegen who had already cancelled his vacation would have stepped in as the emergency 3rd goalkeeper. Such a situation can happen anytime and when it does, the performances in the test games are one of the things to be considered in the decision who will play.

Wrong. I suggested that he's frustrated.

In meaningless ties.

Based on performance he'll not get past Neuer, which is my point. Staying in the second spot and hoping for an extremely unlikely injury of his teammate is no position a player is comfortable with, especially someone of his talent.

And someone who doesn't perform in meaningless ties should be trusted to perform in meaningful ties? His performances for the U21 in the Euros last year weren't exactly stellar either. Maybe they were also not meaningful enough then.
Those "meaningless ties" decide who will play if Neuer is unavailable in meaningful ties, and whether he'll be called up next time at all.

And my point is, if he can't deal with that situation his place should be taken by someone who can.

Club performance is more important. Playing the CL is more important than friendlies vs second tier competition that mean fuck all.

No, your point is that ter Stegen is shit and shouldn't be in the NT in the first place according to you and "many NT followers who would be delighted" if he stayed home instead. You made that point clear enough. Don't bother replying.

That's more or less a re-phrasal of the same point, at least as long as he keeps being shit for the NT. Given you think he's wasting his time there, you should be fine with that proposal as well.

And those were about the only ones. He had a bit more this season than the last two or three, I'll give you that. How many clangers did Ter Stegen have? Trapp? Leno? Ter Stegen has been terrible in almost every game he played for Germany. I'd much prefer it if they had called up Zieler, or Fährmann. They may not have as much "potential" as that trio infernale, but at least they don't drop a clanger every other game. I'd even prefer one of the youngster Karius or Horn.

like they will even play

ter Steven is set to be the #1 GK for one of the top 3 teams in the world.
he will never be left out
all gks make mistakes, young ones even more especially when not playing as consistently as you should

you base your talk on meaningless games

As meaningless as the U21 Euro final.

I'm basing my talk on his performances for the NT. Because that's what we've been talking about here, his latest performance for the NT. Believe it or not, there are players who perform for the club but are underwhelming for the NT, and vice versa.

 That's for outfield players because their effectiveness might change depending on the quality of the team mates, tactics, etc.

But for a goal keeper!? Don't think so

All but two of your posts on this forum are shitting on Mats for making mistakes, and of the two that aren't, one is ironically defending Neuer for making mistakes because everyone does them.

And what exactly is "ironic" there? Of course everyone makes mistakes. But not everyone makes mistakes in almost every game he plays for a German national team.

His development have stalled for two seasons, so I wouldn't say it's unexpected he might be somewhat shaky.

And he must be doing something right to be rated that highly by the German NT setup and most commentators/analysts.

What do you mean?

I don't think his development has stalled. His performance have improved since he joined Barça and he has closed the gap to Bravo. Him being shaky surprised me.
