To be fair to Stegen last season was the first full time season he's had here. His last full time season he played in was during the 2013/14 season with Gladbach, sure he's played in the CL and Copa but those games weren't consistent compared to the league.I have been saying it since day 1, since most people wanted him gone last year. His combination of passing and shot stopping are rare. He still has room for growth. You can’t name a better futuristic keeper.
As good as Bravo was for us, there were concerns we may have screwed up his development. He has a lot of talent no doubt but at the time GK's his age like Courtois,Oblak, Leno etc were playing every match while Stegen was sidelined only for the CL and Copa and it was stunning his development and causing some of his erratic form.
Some argued we should have sent him on loan like Chelsea did with Courtois to keep him on the right track. But It seems going by this season and parts of last season that being sat out only for the Copa and CL didn't affecting as much as a lot of us were worried about.
Stegen right now is playing how everyone expected/hoped when we first signed him. Someone who could not only be a proper Valdes successor but our own Neuer like GK who can compete with the likes of ,De Gea, Courtois, or in general some of the top bracket GKers who are his age.
