One mistake and it's silly season on this thread. What on earth are people talking about? I think MATS is arguably the number 1 keeper in the world. I say arguably because it's not ludicrous for people to think Allison is, as he's a very good keeper too. But in my opinion, MATS's passing as well as 1v1 is right up there as numero uno.

He is solid, very rarely makes mistakes, and also makes spectacular saves almost routinely. He is the last of our problems, literally.

Valdez is one of the most lucky players to ever play the game to win what he did with Barca. He was an accident waiting to happen. What happened to him when he left Barca shows how lucky he was.

Thats bullshit!
There was a time when he was a bombscare in his younger years here yes, but throughout his latter years he was very good.
What he did elsewhere is of no consequence to me

Would Alisson be as good for Barca with our weak defense? Allison is solid, consistent. But he can't make the spectacular saves Mats does. Jan Obs can do both, the spectacular and is solid, that's why he eats alone.

Cool show me the Spectacular saves he made in our last 3 away humulation games in CL, man wtf any average decent keeper would make spectacular saves here and there, hell many keepers made those saves against us in those humulation games while your beloved mats was so shaky that u would feel he would concede with any ball shot at him, so insecure in those away games.

In the same way you can't judge Mats career by 3 CL games, you can't judge one average keeper having a great game as comparable to Mats having regular game after game match saving performances involving numerous spectacular saves.

Look I'm not his biggest fan, he is somewhat error prone. At this stage I would describe him as a Hugo Lloris of 6-7 years ago. Let's hope he doesn't follow Hugo and keep making mistakes to the point we are more solid with the reserve goalie coming in ( like as happened at Spurs with Gazzaniga ).

allison's positioning is the best in the world, thats why he doesnt make as many flashy saves. his anticipation is second to none. just watch the 4-0 highlights for an example

“Alisson Becker has played 5 "win or go home" matches for #LFC. Either finals or games where we faced elimination.
Flamengo
Salzburg A
Spurs
Barca
Napoli H
In those matches he has saved ALL 26 opposition shots on target. Including 6 big chances”

I repeat what I have previously said. The difference between us and Liverpool wasn’t as big as the result indicate. Give us Alison and Liverpool mats and we go through

2014-2015 version of Caludio Bravo to me is still the best keeper that we had in recent years.

Being said that, Alisson is currently #1 and Stegen is among the top 5, much better than Valdez was on average.

Valdez was sometimes really hard to understand with all his mistakes. That said he was good in distribution and had some monster games when it mattered. Never a top 5 keeper like mats is though.

It underlines his greatness and what I see in him, when it matters he shows up and plays to his absolute best with world class concentration. He is a great goalkeeper.

Valdes last season 1,5 here was Bravo 14/15 on a different level, at that time he was our second best player iirc bar Messi - and our team was better back then and not comparable to ter Stegen being second best here for moments/a period. Valdes was just that good, and made me see him in a different light. ter Stegen hasn't had a whole season where he looked unbeatable, he had that 4-month period a while back, but it was more in de Gea greatness with being superior on the line plus passing skills. I have never seen that total domineering aura from him which all great GK have had... Valdes had it in his last years here. Schmeichel, Neuer and Kahn were like that. Casillias, van der Sar and Alisson also had/has that "unbeatable"-vibe over a whole season(s), but not that domineering aura. ter Stegen will probably be in this second category if he could take the finale step. He has the talent and work ethic to reach those heights, but I think there is a pschyolgical barrier he needs to break which may be difficult. Look at Messi he never took that step to leadership. MatS has the desire and talent to make the finale step into best Gk category and put responsibility on his shoulders, but despite him being "cultural responsible" for barca and catalonia, he still often looks apart from the whole. Like he isn't tottaly accepted by the seniors Pique, Sergio, Messi, Suarez and Alba (follower-attitude). His voice is respected in politeness because of his level but not to an extend he is allowed to get into leadership position. That Sergio Roberto is voted 4th captain ahead of ter Stegen says it all. The guy has been groomed by his colleagues and still looks like a wimp. In ter Stegen I could see Actual leader potential. If it were a German club I'm sure he would be bossing it around.

Well my thoughts kinda drifted, but some thoughts I have had on ter Stegens situation here.

I have been saying this from the start lol

Yes Stegen freezes in high pressure away games, pressure gets to him

Yes it wasnt Valverde being an absolute moron and our players shitting their pants and gifting them goals, it's totally down to Alisson and nothing else.
If we had Klopp and they had valverde it wouldn't have even been close...

The only reason that made us close in tight with 3-4 is someone called …. Messi !!!

Otherwise it would have been at least 4-5 goals difference with both legs !!
