I have been Mats hater from early days.
In Bravo vs Mats days, I always liked Bravo more.
Yes, Bravo flopped after Barca, but he was good and reliable for us.
If you were Barca's CB in a CL match, who would you rather have behind your back:
Bravo or this clown?

In his early days, he had those weird Frosty the snowman moments where he was freezing and didn't act like a natural GK.
He was just watching shots and didn't even move.

Buffon and other guys always JUMP towards the ball into a far corner.
Mats, on the other hand, plays some poker game and acts like a handball keeper.
He picks one side, spreads his arms, closes his eyes, bends down and that's it.
He either makes a weird elbow/chest/leg save or concedes a cheap goal which could have been prevented.

And then he had those stupid dribbles near the corner flag, rushing out like Neuer, playing risky passes etc.

For example, Bravo never made any nonsense at Barca.
He was a logical, experienced keeper who knew how to JUMP TOWARDS THE BALL, lol.

On top of everything, Mats is conceding tons in a CL.
Last year I manually counted all the shots in Psg, Juve, Roma, Liverpool games.
He had iirc 47% of shots on target conceded.
And this was before Bayern and Psg.

Also, never forget how he was conceding 3-4 goals per half in his early days for a German NT and youth NT teams.
He was crumbling under pressure since always.

Another GOAT for La Liga and a WOAT on a big stage.

He hasn't been great in La Liga for nearly 2 years now.

Had a couple of great moments, also couple of embarassing episodes. The usual "Not to blame." meh game from MATS.

One of the few players teams might weirdly pay decent money for. Selling him and Lenglet. Making Busquets and Pique leave and Messi leaving is simply the way forward. Not just in the sporting sense, but economically.

Stegen vs Mbappe

Pretty similiar situation when both Henry and Mbappe managed to get away from defender then had a good chance to shoot. But Valdes immediately closed the space between him and Henry therefore could stop his shot. Stegen didn't.
Not the first time we see this.

Could have come out for the third goal aswell imo.

Exactly, if Stegen rushes out exactly when Mbappe makes his move, then he closes him down. But he froze like a clown 1-2m off the goal line. Look at VV rushing out smelling the danger.

Maybe it's still a goal, but he wouldn't be a sitting duck kneeling and raising his hand like an idiot .

Guy is clueless at knowing when to come out and when to keep the position. Not to mention his confidence on crosses must be like 1/10. The guy is probably scared of them. Don't think I've seen him 10 times going out and claiming a cross.

I have never seen a world class keeper standing on his goal line to stop a close range shot. That was a bad look... Mbappe gave him all the time in the world (he took an extra step) to get out of his line a meter or two but he stayed on the dam line.. Close range shots and stopped by closing in first and foremost not by reflexes.

Still I don't think it's typical of him.. That was a major fuck up but not characteristic of him..
What's characteristic of him is cluelessness when it comes it crossing and what to do (or what not to do)

Imagine being so bad in a goalkeeping action that Victor Valdez gifs are used to show what you should have done.

Stegen might aswell just go and retire. Next we will be using Jorge Campos to show how to stop crosses.

Conceded a goal every 15 minutes in ucl with this clown.

If we had Navas over him man we would have at least 2 more UCLS with a treble included.

No doubt

I think it's probably sheer luck based on age that Bayern ended up with Neuer and we ended up with this guy.

The Great Kahn had just retired and then Neuer started breaking though, so Bayern bought him.

Imagine the ages of Neuer and Stegen were reversed then Bayern likely would have ended up with Stegen, we would have bought Neuer and won probably 2 or 3 more UCLs.

It's not just skill of the GK alone that makes a difference. It's leadership, organising defense, and mentally it is so much better for defenders knowing you have a genuinely great superman GK behind you rather than someone like MATS who crumbles at the most important moments.

I genuinely think even VV is better than MATS simply because of mentality difference. Stegen is embodiment of the current Barca fragile mentality.

For me, he is the worst keeper of any top club in Europe. Comfortably. Worst goalkeeper in Barca's history too.

I've never seen a keeper so scared to challenge for the ball.

I've watched that Florenzi assist many times now and all I can do is laugh. 3rd division level keepers would have come out and challenged for that ball and would have probably stopped the goal from happening too.

Busi is the first person that needs to be tossed out of this club, second is MAtS.
