As much as Victor's saves are making us happy, you have to stop and think. What's going on with our defense when Valdes is Barca's best player this season.

Our defense is indeed made to look better because Valdes has been one of the best or the best gk in the past months.
Having said that, our defense is improving although our right flank is still a big problem

The reason that we conceded so many chances today was not the condition of the pitch.

No, not just the pitch. But the combination of the pitch with a crazy team that runs its lungs out and plays a suicidal highline (for Pedro's goal their defense was NOWHERE and Pedro started his run somewhere in his own half ). Was a carbon copy of the Rayo Vallecano game. Even with the conceded penalty.

Of course you can be stubborn and try to outplay them regardless of circumstances instead of being PRAGMATIC and adapting. Then you will get something like this:

Pep Guardiola away record against Real Betis (3 games in total):

2-2
1-3
2-2

Calma, calma
Don't forget that in both 2-2s, we were 2-0 down and and in the first one we only drew level because of Etoo's lucky penalty and deflected Etoo equaliser. On the other hand, Messi didn't start :messi:

If I remember corectly, Martino hymself said that he likes the games to be like this away from home because we have better players than our opponents and we will always score more goals than them(though with last year's Valdes I don't think that it would have been possible). So for this season I'm not really worried, but I can't imagine these games with anyone else instead of VV.

Don't think the Champions League games will be played on a mine field like this.

Pep was a pragmatic man, otherwise we wouldn't have won so much in 4 years(I remember playing with Abidal, Pique, Puyol and Milito at the same time or with a midfield formed of Busquets, Keita and Yaya Toure). But people don't remember these stuff and that's why we see Martino criticized when he replaces Iniesta with Song in an El Clasico though Pep used to make these kind of substitutions all the time with Keita. So I don't know why you would use a small sample to prove that he didn't get results away at Betis because he was too stubborn when Barca almost always had problems at Benito Villamarin(kind of like El Sadar).

The keeper says that "Leo Messi is the best player in the world"

On Barça's style of play: “Before it was easier to analyse us, we've improved in this regard”

“Messi is the best. For me, Messi is God because of what he’s given to the team and because of the experiences I’ve had as his team-mate,” said Víctor Valdés during an event at Gava city hall. He added with a touch of humour: “Also because of what I’ve had to suffer in training, it’s not easy.”

Long balls from the back

When asked about Barça’s current style of play, which features a couple variations in regards to past seasons, Valdés said: “Coming from an excellent level I understand that it may be complicated for people to accept that I play long balls from the back, but our rivals know us well now and it’s easier to analyse us. We’ve improved in that regard.”

The keeper also said that the most important thing “is to win the three points” and “it’s even better if we manage to not concede goals.”

Faith in the youth system

Valdés then expressed his desire that his successor be a product of Barça’s youth system. “As the youth-team graduate that I am, I’d like it if a homegrown player had the same opportunity I did. I know it’s hard and that football has evolved, but I will always say that we have to play with homegrown players,” he concluded.
