Bar the 2006 final and before he got injured in 2012/12, very much so.
Its all relative of course, compared to the years before or compared to Pinto he was amazing.
It always pissed me off that Valdes was constantly excused and allowed to stay despite being a clear weak link in the team only cause he was a la masia product.
Whats even worse is that he thought so himself as well and the way he handled to whole leaving barca situation wasnt very respectfull or grateful either.
All in all im happy and grateful for what Valdes did contribute to the club but I would never let revisionism change my mind into thinking he was some worldclass goalie like Iker or Buffon or even a very important element of the best team ever like Xavi, Puyol or Iniesta for example. He was more like Pique in that matter, but worse.

Bullshit.
He was a brilliant keeper for us - especially during his latter seasons.
People are on his case because of his rather eccentric personality and questionable choices, but saying he was mediocre just shows a complete lack of understanding of our club and the game itself.

I know he'll never be remembered as a great like Buffon and Casillas, but that doesn't change the fact that he overshadowed both of them in several seasons - and not just in trophies won.

I had a whole response but while typing it I felt like coming across as a VV hater while thats not the case. I get why he was suited for Barca's style, a much better keeper than the likes of Baia, Rustu, Bonano, Hesp. He did well in the cl finals and the 2012/13 season (2009/10 as well I guess)
Compared to the rest of the team I do think he was of average quality and an average goalkeeper compared to those of other big teams.
In the end I was quit pleased when he didnt take the 10 mil renewal. Declining Barca after years of support at the worst time imaginable and skipping te Atletico game.

It's indeed all Van Gaal. Manchester United should take action though because the way this entire case is being handled looks very unprofessional. They're lucky it's Valdés, who doesn't have much of a rep in England anyway, and not another high profile player or they'd get so much media attention. Now people just seem to forget about him.

He's just lost all sense with reality long before he even joined Manchester United. I remember him storming out of a TV show when he was a pundit because they didn't ask him for the next game, he calls himself a footballing genius, etc. He's just a complete psycho.

Valdes isn't seen as part of the club now and certainly not part of the first team squad, I hardly think that Van Gaal was responsible for invitations to this. He was given a chance to complete his rehab here then offered a contract but he behaved disrespectfully and then couldn't get the move he wanted in the summer. Ugly situation but I don't have much sympathy for him.
