poor guy he will loose the balloon because our team. He plays in the midfield because they cant handle it alone and he is our best passer. Problem is when he trying to help our midfield we dont have a goalscorer. Pedro and alexis are wingers and not really the best .When i watch ronaldo and see how many space he have its a bit unfair to say ronaldo is the better one because he always score against us. And how ronaldo scores against us is a joke always because our dump defense. If messi had the same space like ronaldo he would score every game a least 2-3 goals. And he scores though. Did ronaldo ever score a goal when he had our defense in front?? I have never seen him do this i can only remember long balls or high balls when there is only one defender or no one. We made it so easy for him everytime a mistake from our side. This goals can score almost every good player nothing special only dump mistakes from our side.

There's no way Messi will not win the Balon D'or. Anybody with half a brain knows his season was way better than Penaldo's. Perhaps if Penaldo had won the CL or Euros he would deserve strong consideration. Especially if he won both. The reality though is that he has only won la liga and the supercup which in all honestly Barcelona lost as opposed to Real winning. Messi broke numerous records and singlehandedly carried barcelona all the way to the CL semis without Villa or Pedro.

From what I have heard from people who work in football as journalists(based in spain) , they believe that Messi will win.

Just calm down, analyze the votings of last year. Captainss of national teams, coaches and a selected media representative from every country votes for the Ballon D'Or. So just look how close Ronaldo was last year, if he was too close, you never know, if he was far away, forget him winning the trophy. But again, Mourinho, Madrid and Ronaldo will do extra PR to get the ballon d'or and try to persuade those guys to vote for him instead of Leo.

I mean after all Casillas had the balls to tell Xavi should have won the Ballon D'Or instead of Messi (2 years ago), but again he himself voted for Mourinho instead of Del Bosque to win the coach of the year trophy I guess.

It's all planned by Mourinho. I don't write this as a kind of conspiracy. Mou has a philosophy that he takes every thing to win, off and on the pitch. If it requires him to troll outside the pitch he does. Remember the Ballon D'Or 2 years ago, when Xavi, Iniesta and Messi were upfront. Penaldo, Casillas, Mourinho were all in consensus that Xavi should have won it. This was never just speaking out their oppinions about the winner, rather an attempt to try to get into the harmony of the magic 3 Barca players. Mou and his team never leave a chance to do so. He wants to win (The Liga, against Barca etc.) no matter what it takes. That is the biggest difference from Madrid and Barca, Mou and Pep etc.

Any reasonable person with some sence of thinking abilities knows that. However I'm concerned about all the Ronaldohype that was started by Mourinho. If you compare Messi and Ronaldo's statistics then Leo is far superior. If Ronaldo and Messi continue the form there currently in there can be nog logical reason to choose Ronaldo over Leo.

last year

Messi - 47.88% of votes
Ronaldo - 21.6% of votes
Xavi - 9.23% of votes

Will obviously be a lot close this year between the shortlisted 3.

Anyone know how the European player of the year award is decided tonight? That should give us some insight.

Instead of Xavi, Iniesta could be up 3rd. The problem about the Ballon D'or is that it's incredibly biased and actually just a prestige thing. I mean even Cannavaro won the Ballon D'Or in 2006. It would be great for Messi to win it again, he deserves to win it anyway, but Mou and his team troll around for Ronaldo.

In my opinion, his form is perfectly fine; I think he's just frustrated. Not only is he marked by at least two or three people at any given time, but he has to come back very deep just to get the ball---circumstances no player, no matter how extraordinary, could possibly flourish in.

Can we blame him? His supporting cast back in 2009: Henry and Eto'o. 2 of the best strikers of their generation. His supporting cast nowadays: Tello, Cuenca, Sanchez, Iniesta etc. I'd be frustrated as well having to play 1 vs. 6 defenders in the final third of the pitch most of the time. Messi didn't score from open play against any big team since the Champions League final 2011 if people haven't noticed yet.

2 x Milan in the CL group stages: 0 goals
2 x Milan in the CL knockout rounds: 0 goals
2 x Real Madrid in La Liga: 0 goals
2 x Real Madrid in Copa del Rey: 0 goals
2 x Chelsea in the CL knockout rounds: 0 goals

Coincidence for someone who is so prolific otherwise (82 goals!)? Nah. Big teams are just heavily and effectively marking Messi and ignoring the lesser forwards like Tello, Cuenca, Afellay and Iniesta (yes, he's useless as a striker) and that's doing the job. If they did that back in 2009 with Henry and Eto'o, they would have gotten punished immediately. Their presence on the pitch alone was something else and they opened up space for Messi. Villa needs to get fit as soon as possible. MVP!

I'm agree with you! Messi deserves better player in the attack, next to him. It happened that Messi let out the chance unfortunately. He didn't have luck. I'd like Messi as a big game specialist!

The thing about Messi is his creative side is so good, so just going on goals maybe misleading. He created quite a few goals in the games mentioned, I think he'll win the Ballon D'or again and deservedly so, nobody had a better individual season.

Regardless, if he doesn't win it, it doesn't matter. Football is a team game and individual awards are meaningless in comparison to the team.
