I know the answer. He has so many games. He isn't phisically so strong, and this year he has to travel a lot of times to Argentina. He moves more with the ball.
He always wants to play and help the team.

This award is about the best player in Europe last season. Iniesta was injured in september 2011, november 2011, december 2011, januari 2012. He was out for months.
Although I love Iniesta and he does need some recognition for his work, I think this award is about the best player and to be honest nobody comes near Messi. That’s why I feel this is a real injustice.
Again, Iniesta needs recognition but lets be honest here..
When I saw them after the show walking together, it was really weird..Messi not the best player??
Iniesta helped Spain national team to glory too, he was monster. its pretty logical that iniesta was the winner. Though yes, Messi broke many-many incredible records too..

Im happy that Iniesta won, because Balon d'or goes probably to Messi. :)

Messi is looking at Ronaldo and thinking: "Ow.. he mad!"
Superb image. Definitely a little smirk on Messi's face from what you can assume is a "Even when I don't win it still goes to Barcelona" moment.

That trophy is bloody hideous though.

that's what I thought. I swear he was doing his hardest not to crack up laughing out loud. that's what that redfaced grin was about. I'm sure he was overjoyed for Iniesta, but he was clearly trying his best not to laugh at Ronaldo

I don't understand something. When Messi was introduced with a little film, why just his goals could we see? They should have put other things too, and thy didn1t speak about the assists. Messi isn't just a goal scorer

On the other hand, they didn't show the goal against Brazil. Well, that's UEFA award, so non-UEFA games does not matter.

The issue I have with Messi these days, is that his dribbling hasn't really gotten better from maybe 08/09 or 09/10. Of course, he can't dribble as much as a few years ago, due to the number of matches and the toll that would take on him. Also, he has elevated other sides of his game greatly, thus reducing the focus he had on dribbling in the past. What this means though, is that, although we see more consistent, direct impact in terms of goals, assists, we rarely get to see those long runs where he dribbles several players. That was perhaps the most appealing part of his game, at least for me.

Another thing that is affected, is that when his dribbling is really needed, in big games, it isn't sharp enough, oftenly. Perhaps I lay too much importance on dribbling, but in tight games, I think it's really important. Last season till today, his dribbling has seemed a bit sloppy compared to previous seasons. He's still the best dribbler in the world, and his productivity (goals, assists) is aaamazing. I just wish we could see more of his best dribbling!

He is even more guarded these days than a few years ago. Every time he receives the ball there are 3 defenders breathing down his neck.

It really comes down to him being heavily heavily marked now compared to 08/09 season, and even then he does great I find him very entertaining to watch, so is Iniesta(big grats to him btw) and many many more players in our team.

No, I dont agree at all.

If you notice his dribbling is not only as good but better now than say 08/09 or 09/10, the thing is, teams have started to defend his runs better.. notice the next time Messi plays against Madrid, you'll notice that although they wont directly tackle him, they'll push him into a crowd of defenders and choke him for space, of course this leaves space for other players in the team and thats why you'll notice that Messi had been assisting well against Madrid. A classic example of this was Abidal's goal in the CDR. Messi was on his run and the Madrid defense crowded him. Messi being the genius he is, finds the LB's perfectly timed run, leading to a simple finish.

He's being chocked of space, thats what's happening. Of course all teams cant defend that way and thats why we see his trademark goals from time to time.

Can someone please make a gif of this with the "deal with it" glasses dropping down on Messi's and Iniesta's faces. ROBBIE?! You are good at this, aren't you?

"Messi gained the most nominations in the original vote, announced on August 14, while Andrea Pirlo, Xavi, Iker Casillas, Didier Drogba, Petr Cech, Radamel Falcao and Mesut Ozil made up positions four to 10."
