He should be allowed to sit it out for his firstborn son's birth considering everything he has done for Barca, it's fans and for you. If Barca can't handle Deportivo without Messi then that's a healthy warning sign that something needs to be done to balance the team.

Ronaldo played on the day that his father died. That´s professional football.

If it seems like the baby will really be due that day then he should be with his wife i believe, Football and Career can take a pause for something earlier on the list "family"

Us fans should understand this, and as mentioned if we cant handle this one without him then we need to fix this problemo.

Personally my issue would be not to watch him play football. Particularly Messi and Iniesta missing from the line up give me a real "missing magic" feeling when watching Barca. but its gonna be fun to see Messi back as a father, and see how it effects him.

Yes but he was at the Euro's at that time. You can't compare a game at the Euro's with one in La Liga. Here , Messi could miss playing against not such a strong opponent while beeing 8 points ahead of Madrid for beeing there when his son is born.

But it's Messi , he always wants to play so it would be a shock if he would tell Tito that he wants to play :pep:

So what? Just because Ronaldo played doesn't mean that Messi should. That's some weird logic. If someone jumps off a cliff, then should you?

"Professional football". Are you forgetting that players are humans who also have families and are not pieces on a chessboard? If you can't appreciate Barca without Messi then you might be better off at a Messi fanclub.

As much as I hate it I have to agree with you guys, if his baby is due anytime soon than he shouldn't travel to whatever city we are playing, stay home with mama Antonella.

Only about 5 per cent of babies are delivered on their due date, so the chances are that Messi could be used on Saturday without missing anything although i'm sure he'll be given the opportunity to spend it with his wife. If she is still pregnant come the Celtic game then he could easily be used as the game is in Barcelona and with labour taking 12-18 hours he would have more than enough time to make it to her bedside.

Everyone who says Messi shouldn't be there for the birth of his first child will be a crappy parent one day

No kidding, it's not even a relevant debate...It's birth, not death and he's been talking about becoming a father for months now

This thread has been dumped on soo much in the last year, it's hard to fathom

Barca should be able to win one away game without Messi. If I'm not mistaken we don't have any injuries upfront so we can play alexis-villa-pedro and xavi-busi-iniesta. If one of them can't play its Cesc time or Tello time.

Nevertheless I still think Messi will play 30+ minutes on Saturday, score a brace and win us the game.
