Hello, I'm new here! Saw the game against Copenhagen. Another game, another goal for Messi. Other than that though, it was a fairly bad performance. For him AND the team as a whole. The thing I'm most concerned about though, is his dribbling. It has gotten bad for his standards. It was at it's peak in 08/09, then it got worse last season, and now it's even worse than that.
He dribbles much less than he used to, and when he does, it's far from as good as it used to be. I don't like it. Anybody here seeing the same as me?

He focuses on goals alot more now and he scores a heck of alot so it's not a huge deal i don't think

I'm really happy he's scoring a lot of goals, but he did that in 08/09 too! Also, it shouldn't mean that his dribbling ability becomes worse. He has to find a middle ground. It will perhaps go as long until he's not really dangerous from dribbling anymore, and then he focuses on it. He had a period when it happened last year too. And then he must've realised it, because right after that came his amazing period with hattricks against Valencia and Zaragoza and all that. Maybe I'm overanalyzing it, but I hope it gets better. And on a selfish level, it pleases me more watching him go on those dribbling runs :p I love goals, but those runs are my favourite! :D

definitely, i love them runs but messi is a man of the people (in this case his club) but i do think that you can't expect him to make runs like that every game, so yeah you probably are over analyzing a bit. the runs will come though, the one vs sevilla wasn't bad at all and theres still the whole season ahead of us

I agree, but I think it has more to do with the fact that he's playing in the center now rather than him getting worse or anything. He doesn't play RW anymore so he no longer has the space that he has when he cuts in from the right. He's more of a pure goalscorer now rather than the goalscorer-playmaker role that he played before. Plus, he still makes awesome runs like the ones vs. Stuttgart, Zaragoza, Arsenal etc. last season :)

Also, welcome to the forum. Hope you stick around.

It's a lot harder to isolate defenders and beat them when you're playing in the centre, if you're on the wing you can isolate full backs, beat them and then move on to the next defender, but in the middle you're crowded out more, while it may seem like a bad thing for him, it'll help him become a more well-rounded player and you can be more effective in the middle when you're closer to the goal. He's got 30 Champions League goals btw! in 50 appearances!!

We have Messi-the bus breaker in the team and we keep stumbling when we face them... When it's open play let him play central posing as much goal threat as he can. But against buses let him be on the right wing Pep. The last few minutes when PEdro played on the right he drawed so many defenders away from the D and there was a glorious chance to score the goal. Imagine what Messi could do!!

Who is the youngest ever player to score 100 La Liga goals? Messi is 5 away from achieving that target, don't think Telmo Zarra hit that many by the age of 23 either. Just curious like.
