Seems Guardiola bows to Messi's pleas. Always wants to play and in which case Guardiola will play him.

He's not injury prone anymore, he plays in more games than almost anyone else in the Barca team, and it's nice for the fans to see him in what was a fairly straightforward Copa del Rey game.

If anything, Guardiola should be subbing the lad when they're 3-0 up against someone approaching the final 5-10 minutes, particularly in a physical match just to save another Ujfalusi incident happening.

Leo needs to consider his career over the long term. He needs to pace himself. Otherwise he will pick up injuries. Pep needs to put his foot down.

Mate, the last thing you ever think about when playing football is to pace yourself.

He played half an hour versus a third league team when the game was already done and dusted. That's not even close to a serious training session ... which he didn't have apparently.

And next thing you are advising him to "consider his career over the long term"?

....

What Xavi has done, like playing 60+ games for years in a row WITHOUT proper rest and through pain, that takes a toll. Or what for instance Raul has done, playing those 50+ games a year when not even being 20, that takes a toll on his later years.
Messi is in top shape and that for some years to come, he tries to play as much as possible. He had rests during his big injuries when his body was maturing, had a rather good rest during this summer and now a 'refreshing' week off after the Ujfalusi tackle.

Messi is fine for now, the thing Barcelona needs to do is keep him happy on the pitch. Cooling him will come when his body starts to show signs of taking a step back.

Agreed completely, Messi is physically and mentally fit.

Which he already has done by changing his position from RW to false-9 that never tracks back(last season he didn't, now he has started to)

Yes I would advise him to look at the long term picture.

He has been playing virtually non stop for several seasons. And medical expertise or no the cumulative effects will affect his career later on.

There was absolutely no point in playing him. It kept him happy because he wanted to play but Leo also needs someone to make him realize he cannot keep playing week in and week out ,year in and year out if he wants to have a long career ie post 30.

No one can predict what may happen. God forbid he could suffer a serious injury like the thug Ufalusi nearly perpetrated but there is also the question of mental sharpness and freshness.

He may want to play each game but and the body and mind are willing but cannot respond especially at the tail end of a season for that extra effort which may be needed.

And from an Argentinian viewpoint we also want him relatively fresh for the Copa.

Absolutely right.

It isn't about this week or even this season, the big picture is a long, healthy career.
