There were several 1-2s between Leo & Pastore that seemed like they could easily become very 'in tune' with one another

I'll take your word for it, after watching the Spain-Portugal friendly, this one move and Messi's goal were the only ones that stayed with me. :)

In this case, I meant the one where they ended up very near the goal and Pastore made a poor shot at goal (coz he was already out of position).

Great stat from OptaJose (twitter): 44 - Lionel Messi has scored 44 goals (in 44 La Liga games) since the start of 2009-10, one more than the entire Deportivo team. Clockwork.

I liked his little 1-2 with Pastore, only I think Pastore started to move out of the way, probably expecting Messi to take the shot and not pass to him, because he was out of position when Messi passed. A few more matches together and their chemistry could become like that of Messi-Xavi. Pastore moving to Barcelona (before 2014, hopefully) would do wonders for Argentina.

ur talking about the (almost) tripple one-two except pastore didn't read it, sucks but need time to perfect chemistry

anyway i think pastore was poorer than usual that game

I know right. We should just field Messi everyone else does nothing.

we are a 1 man team right now.... messi cant save us all the time.

No, we absolutely aren't, we have plenty of players that are contributing a lot. Obviously Messi is playing a huge and very important role and we rely on him a lot; he's the best player of the past twenty years.

They are and have been for the past two years ever since Guardiola handed Messi the number 10 shirt. He single handedly won Barca the league between March and May, absolutely scintellating stuff. Not particularly a one man team, but for the past 27 months it's been Lionel Messi and 10 supporting cast members.

Xavi and Iniesta have proven in the past for Barcelona they're not quite so good without Messi in the side whereas Messi's the opposite. No one pulling the strings in Barca midfield? He goes and does it himself. It'll take a 6 month injury to Leo for people to appreciate just how great he is though. He's not just any old special player, he's even better than Diego Maradona was at 23 years of age...

Rubbish, they've never been a one man team, and the idea that it's just Messi +10 is ridiculous, you couldn't just take out Xavi/Iniesta/Alves and throw in some mediocre players and achieve anything close to what Barca have done. Messi isn't the only player who's played a significant role, he's just easily the most impressive.
Xavi and Iniesta don't start playing worse when Messi is out, things just naturally look different (and less impressive) because Xavi interacting with Pedro (or anyone else, realy) is never going to be as impressive as Xavi interacting with Messi. That's not to say that they lose even the slightest bit in terms of their intelligence/creativity/passing ability etc etc. It's Barca as a whole that isn't performing as well when Messi is out.
Plenty of their best games have come during Euro 2008 and WC 2010, when they obviously weren't playing with Messi. Of course having Messi on the field makes things easier for them, but it doesn't magically change what they're capable of.

Batista is adopting a 4-3-3 to suit Messi but I think a 4-2-3-1 would serve Leo well and Argentine better.

None of the team played 4-3-3 and it takes time to get used to.Not 2 days preperation.

Banega feels uncomfortable in it he needs to play alongside a 5 ie Masch with him as an eight. Pastore sits too deep on the left side of the three and it will take time to build chemistry with him and Messi and Banega.

Also proper carrileros attacking fullbacks are needed rather than Heinze and Zanetti to provide width and open up the pitch.

However I think Leo is growing into his role as leader. The way he pumps his arms demands the ball and even encouraging team mates are signs of it. A far cry from the shy youngster of three years ago at the Copa.

Diego lifted his team mates to higher levels and Leo can do the same. After all he has one target left and that is to win the WC which would be especially sweet in 2014 as wellas the Copa next year infront of the home fans.

Contrary to all that is said he is very popular. There is only a very small minority who still do not think he performs.

On the pitch Argentina has some extremely talented players but they need to believe in their abilities as well. Far too often they are ready to shirk responsibility onto Leo . They need to feel lifted by his presence not crushed and do their share of the work.

Messi without the ball is just as potent as a weapon as he is with it. He often can draw defenders out of position and more than one so creating space for other players. Some of the players in our seleccion need to realize this rather than constantly passing te ball to him to borrow an American hockey colloquialism , in traffic.

They need to realize they are also very gifted. With all this talent and introducing a new defensive corps ie Munoz/ Musacchio/Ansaldi Argentina should have a great chance of taking the Copa and WC.

Which would leave Leo very happy and also elevate him to godlike status in Argentina.
