but of course we do not even use him properly.. it would be tragic for him not to win a world cup

Argentina must have a better tactic if they want to win the world cup. Use 4-3-3 formation, with messi, tevez, and aguerro up front. And the 3 of them must move and rotate them self in the pitch. Argentina have masche in the midfield, just find an attacking midfield who willing to fight in the pitch (i don't think riquelme would fit these) to supply the 3 up front player.

here is what i think

messi aguero tevez up front would be great with diego milito off bench

i worship riquelme so him and masch in the center with maybe cambiasso or gago

maradona is not a very good coach tactically he can run a good session and motivate.. but when it comes to tactics he needs to listen to the assistants more

Don't you think riquelme a bit too lazy? he's an excellent player indeed, but he not made enough movement on the pitch.

do u remember how beautiful we played in 06 and copa america? although we did not win a title we played the pretty footy in the competitions.. and this is when everything flowed through riquelme if we have masch and gago or two similar holding players on the field then riquelme can afford to not track back all the time.. i am in aw of what riquelme can do in a game i only wish his attitude had not wrecked his career... look at tevez he has amazing attitude and he has won EVERYTHING imagine i riquelme had that same attitude

I think i agree with his attitude. Maybe all argentina's coach have tried to motivate him to move more often, but he didn't listen.

But i always think if argentina want to win the WC, they have to build a team to support messi. Just like the '86 WC, when argentina done that for maradona. My father always told me that maradona are the main reason argentina won that WC (i'm too young to watch '86 WC :D ). Maybe messi could do the same.

i understand what you mean, but messi is still young and that is A lot of pressure on him at this time of his development and i think the national team relied to much on riquelme to run the show.. we desperately need a xavi like player to control the tempo of the game, connect passes, and find those small gaps that messi exploits so well.. with the way things are going right now we do not stand a chance in the WC . i am hoping praying someone steps up and takes control of our midfield and makes that spot theirs

messi does have what it takes to carry Argentina he has done it many times for Barça but it is a matter of is there enough support to build around him and can he flourish under Maradona who seems to be more a friend then a coach

If Argentina wants to win the world cup, they must change the coach. Maradina has no idea about tactic and how should they play defense. I saw all their games after riquelme's retired, and it's not looking good, especially when spain and Brasil play so much better. Argentina doesn't have a play maker and all their attack goes directly to Messi Aguero and Tevez. When riquelme was playing the ball moved from side to side, they kept the ball better. I hardly believe they will be at the semi final.

Messi can't take this title alone.

Great post, exactly Argentina's problem. With the exception of Maxi in midfield there is no real creativity. Maradona won't win this World Cup that is for sure !

He could try Messi in a deeper central role and tell him to look for passes/through balls after he creates space for himself. Then again I guess if Maradona was capable enough to properly convey these kind of things he would not be in the mess he is in currently.

Funny thing is I'm not even sure Maradona will be (can be?) removed even after a failure in SA.

if u had read that previous post this is exactly what me and sammy were speaking of and maradona will resign at some point when something does not go his way.... things will turn around soon

maybe Cambiasso? i know he is old but the few games i watched of Inter, he was a beast in the midfield, Messi needs someone like him who he can connect well and understand better, kinda like In Barca with Xavi and Iniesta.
