I think Romario is the one with the most official goals, top 5 being him, pele, bican, puskas and Gerd muller.
Messi is like top 80 currently, he will get there though, just give it some time.

rsssf included goals from youth teams etc.... Only senior level (top leagues): Pele is 1st with 757 official goals (Club & country)... Messi (348).

I used the research done by Argentinian sports magazine el graffico as a source rather than rsssf, they have included Pele at 757 at place 3 with the criteria being that they counted offical goals and did not count goals scored in club friendlies, club organized tournaments, summer/winter tournaments, preseason tournaments,matches that did not involve the professional side, and festive matches.

Im not sure its 100% accurate of course as is with most of these statistics from the past but ist pretty cool cause the orginal file contains up to the best 160 goalscorers, Messi wasn't included cause they published that edition in March 2012, also the active players on the list may have lower numbers than they currently have.

Where were you when people were criticizing Messi himself because of his lack of work ethic lately!? He pratically takes rest while still on the pitch some times and doesn't care about pressing! How about the injuries he suffered in the previous seasons because of the lack of rest!?

He has already proven he is a far better goal scorer than CR7... Let alone CR7, he even broke the record of Gerd Muller!!
It's high time he cares more about the team and his contribution to the team, as a whole, than the individual records... I am not saying he only cares about the records. But he wants to play all the freaking time and that's not what one would do when they care to maintain fitness levels.

Besides, if he keeps on playing left and right without proper rest... It could even affect his long term career

Well said. Being able to take care of himself and resting appropriately
and adequately will be crucial to Messi's and our team's success.

What is your source for the top 4? Im very positive Messi eventually gets close, it will take years though so im not to worried about it. I figure he will get to 500 in 3 years which would already be top 10 stuff and totally epic.
