Brilliant game. Even if his overall season performance never ends up being the same as in the past (hopefully it does, fingers crossed), I will always be grateful when he reminds us why he is GOAT. Treasure these games.

i dont expect much from him with this static team surrounding him. barca only started playing after messi's wonder goals that got us back in the game. it's not gonna be like that in every match, when messi gets shut down barca will be impotent

The thing bout it is, I honestly believe when he puts 100% effort into it he is impossible to close down for an entire match. Also hopefully iniesta coming back in will help the team too, we had a lot of movement in the second half, traingle type shit.

It's a team game. The first goal was just a wonder goal. It doesn't happen often. The 2nd goal was great build-up and teamwork. We need more of that. Messi is briliant, but no one guy can individually win a match, esp. v. better opponents.

We need Suarez and Neymar to step it up, and the midfield to be creative. And the defense... well...

This guy is just out of this world, the difficulty level of his goals is unreal, even the third one where he just had to tap in, his tap ins look like 8th balls ready to go in, the precision.... Damn

I hate to bring up Ronaldo here but this Liga weekend has showed the massive difference between the two of them. There is no alternate reality in which anyone on this planet, let alone Ronaldo can effect and decide games like Messi can with his dribbling, goals and passes.

This. cr has nothing to claim to be closer to him. Messi is just something else.

Messi is much more talented then ronaldo, who dives and cant dribble.

Unlike Maradonna who for my believe had even more talent than messi, Messi performed his whole career at high stage unless maradonna who destroyed his career in few years. He can be best ever , but people says he needs world cup. Hopefully next time he wins it.

It's fucking ridiculous. Goal this, goal that, but the real story is how he takes the entire match on his fucking shoulders. 109 touches of the ball today, only less than Xavi and Alba. He destroyed Espanyol, turning every half chance or miniscule space into a beautiful goal or play.

It's more than running around providing a nice one-touch finish here or there, he is a #10 and the greatest one ever at that.

Vintage Messi today. He even looks thinner ffs . Those through balls, dribbles and shots - all reminded me of his 2012 insane form.

Prime Xavi holding down the midfield with Iniesta is probably the main difference. The team itself makes it so Messi can't score hattricks more often. If this Messi was in the 2010 team he'd probably score a hattrick everygame.

He's up to over a goal a game now as well with 20 in 19. Ronaldo is on 29 in 21. If we start getting some penalties and Ronaldo tails off again like he did toward the end of last season then he could still outscore him.

yup, at the end of the day you cant do everything by yourself, and Iniesta and Xavi were his main servants back then who he could rely on

But todays Messi is as good as old Messi
