A lot of people here always rubbish claims that Messi doesn't do enough for the team with the notion that he's never been a great runner, even in past seasons. While that's true, the big difference between the current Messi and the Messi under Pep is that he was more tactically limited and his off-the-ball movement was a lot better, especially in Pep's earlier seasons. He doesn't make himself available as much; he picks up the ball anywhere he wants and that's usually a lot deeper than it used to be, which makes no sense at all, as he often has the opponent's central midfield in front of him and leaves our attack practically empty then; and sometimes, he doesn't even run forward and get involved even though we're attacking.
It's not supposed to be a criticism of Messi (if anything, I blame the coaches), just an observation. He plays in one of the 4 most important positions in our team so we have to get the best out of him, tactically, so that our style of play doesn't suffer.
Against levante he HAD to drop back into inesta's role because iniesta wasn't there he had to drop back and start something. A better tactical move would have been to take off Cesc or Xavi and put Dongou on and have him actually play in midfield.
