Because the rivals who are RM and Atleti this season go out there and run like mad dogs in each game.

If it's a sickness as everyone here predicts, then Tata is an absolute idiot for playing him. Like I said before though, I highly doubt it's a sickness. He looks completely fine in team dinners and practices.

Physically, I think he's fine in terms of injuries. And I don't really think he's saving himself for the WC, not deliberately anyway. I think he is just the kind of player who needs a Ferguson, a Pep, or a guiding figure to make him feel loved and valued.

I don't think it is about effort really. He seems to have lost a little of his speed so now he is dispossessed more often when dribbling. Maybe he just didn't recover very well from his injury. Also people are saying that his still young, but are forgetting that he started playing in A TEAM very young and he played a lot. So maybe he is a burned out and starting to decline a sooner, than other players. He needs rest and if his speed doesn't improve he should be moved to AM midfield role. The 4-2-1-3 formation with real 9 in front of Messi would work much better IMO. The problem is what to do with Iniesta, Xavi and Fabregas can go.

Of course it is about effort. He didn't even break a swet. Remeber those times when his shirt was all sweaty because of how intense his sprints were? Now it's immaculate, not a single drop of sweat on them. And it's not just him, many players don't deserve the paycheck in terms of how much effort they put in nowadays.

I really don't understand how you can make these claims. His burst of speed when he dribbles is the same now as it was then. There's no way he is reaching his decline.

I don't know he seems slower to me than before. Not by much, but that little difference often leads to him losing balls.

This. The whole team needs a kick up the ass.

I wasn't even worried so much about Messi today although I did notice I barked at him a few times for standing absolutely still when the situation called for intensity. I felt like I was barking at Alexis for tripping over his own feet or something. I was more in tune with how the team was playing, and I didn't get the sense of urgency that said, 'okay guys we NEED to score. We need to win this game'. And to be fair, I agree with someone who said that we are without tools to be at that superior level we once were at the moment. We are ill equipped to defend properly, we are ill equipped to attack through the middle properly, we are ill equipped to draw defenders out into midfield and create space also. Collectively we are out of form and although Messi was decent and had some good runs, there were many many players who looked just as or even more out of form than him.

He's probably triste because his buddies Pinto and Mascherano will be gone in the same transfer window. We need to get him new friends ASAP. Willy Caballero and Agüero should do.

Prime isn't just age, it's also mileage. Messi already has, at 26 years old, 5-6 years of top class football. A decline is logical, and IMO that's what we're witnessing now. .

I still love Leo and will support him, but I have always agreed with this and said so for this whole season.

Why people assume because he is 26 he still has 4 years of peak. Most players reach their peak at 22-23 onto 28. Messi was at his peak at about 19 so maybe 26 is where he begins decline.

Doesn't mean I hate him or want him to fail. Maybe just looking at the situation rationally.

I do not ever agree with wishing ill on Leo though. I hope he does as well as he can in Brazil.

He's just going through a bad phase. It also appears every player in the world knows all his moves. He his predictable at the moment.

All the praise thats been given to Messi has gotten to his head. He knows he can play shit and still not be benched.

He is MUCH slower then 3-4 years ago, hes also not accelerating as fast, and dont move of the ball nearly as much.
Cant remember the last time he outran a player 1v1 where he didnt have 5m head start. Used to do that alot before.
