I didn't see the game but judging from the highlights, it seems like he is running, pressing and generally showing more fightning spirit 10x more than last season. A joy to watch and hopefully it continues into the season.

Of course. If he doesn't score a hattrick in the first match then you'll see comments like 'he has declined', 'he doesn't look happy', 'I think he will leave next summer', 'he must have a medical problem' etc.

Also not to forget the 'I have a bad feeling' before every single match.

People getting older DO decline in physical attributes so even if it does happen it's not something to write home about. I don't think Messi is any different and obviously he will be slower and not that energetic as he was in his 20.
