Messi is wrong when he talks about a WC win worth more than his 5 Ballon d'Ors. It is understandable that he wants for Argentina to win, but he is putting too much pressure on himself. By almost singlehandedly defeating Bayern Munich in the CL semifinal, scoring 2 goals against Neuer and assisting Neymar's third goal, he definitely redeemed himself for the Argentina loss in the WC final.
He plays for a team that - in my opinion - would beat the German National team.
BTW - wouldn't it be a good idea to test this claim? Let the best Club team play the best National team? With Barça and Germany there is no overlap - except for the Backup GK!
