10 - Lionel Messi - v5

Pedro

La Masia
likely entered the special list of players who scored 500 goals in one club this season. probably even 2nd or third youngest to do so ( I imagine there's only pele and muller above him).

Yeah he's on 496 goals, 2 or 3 more games and he'll get there.

Also ... Muller was predominantly a goal hanger ..... he must have had a couple of hundred two foot tap in goals .

He was simply a goal scorer and I never really rated him tbh .

As regards Pele , didn't he spend most of his career playing for the dominant team in the league which wasn't even close to the best league in the world ..... may be wrong of course ..

Football in Brazil was at a much higher level at the time. I'm a Messi fanboy but I don't downplay what Pele did. 1962 Santos beat Benfica 8-4 over 2 legs in the old Club World Cup 2 game format ( Just 2 legs between SA winner and Euro winner which is the way it should be today imo ). Pele scored 5 of the goals.

1963 Santos and Milan finished 6-6 after 2 legs. Pele scored 4 of the goals.

Just wanted to say that Ronaldo only leads Messi by 30 goals now , 584 to 554. For the season Messi leads 43-26 for their respective clubs ( this is unheard of in recent seasons ). I expect this to continue next season. Unfortunately Ronaldo is having a revival in front of goal for Portugal and Messi is struggling with this current Argentine set up. Ronaldo leads 10-3 for the season and still has 1 qualifier plus the Confed cup. If the international goal rate is more even next season then I could see Messi clsing the 30 goal gap significantly. With a bit of luck Messi could beat him to 700.

Football here in Brazil wasn't at a higher level. Few clubs had a good level, the majority was formed by minnions. Santos would win by scores like 8-0 a lot.

Fair enough, perhaps you know more. My point about the games vs Milan and Benfica still stand.
