Another amazing match by him. Slowed down in 2nd half though but was still only one who made things happen.

A God of football. Nearing 500 official goals for Barca? 583 total in his career so far? And to think that goals are only a fraction of the influence that Messi provides is ludicrous. From the day he scored the first goal, Messi was a prodigy doing things beyond the level of world class footballers. Even then, no one could've imagined the footballing force he would become.

Messi alone is an icon and testament to the heights of human talent and ability. He has raised the bar for footballing performance more than anyone ever before him. Valdano's quote is the most accurate for me, it brings everything into perspective perfectly:

"Messi is Maradona every day. It is June 1986 for 5 years now. The last 5 years, Messi is the Maradona of the World Cup in Mexico."

He's the most unbelievable player I've ever seen. The more football you play, the more you realize just how good he is.

He has lost loads of explosiveness and movement, but has reinvented himself (yet again btw) to maximize his influence over the game. Unfortunately, this can't happen against all the teams because they know how to guard him now, but I bet given the ball more consistently he will punish any team over and over again.

To compensate, Neymar's explosiveness is sorely required. But with Neymar you have other weaknesses that need to be controlled. And unfortunately Barca currently do not have a midfield capable of doing that.

Anyway, I genuinely believe Barca can pull off another comeback, if they play as fearlessly as they did against PSG. Messi and Neymar need to be switched on, Umtiti and Mascherano need to step up the pitch and make those tackles high correctly every time. A tall ask, but doable and hopefully an early goal will galvanize the team. The biggest obstacle to a progression is the legend Buffon, as I believe Messi in his current form will still create chances against the otherwise formidable Juve defence.

Either way, it will be an electric atmosphere at the Camp Nou and the game will be very enjoyable to watch :hooray:

Absolutely scandalous that he only has one assist over his last three matches. He has created about 15 clear-cut scoring chances in just the past week... If the rest of the team was even playing at an average level we would be well on track to doing the treble.

He'll miss out again on the Ballon D'or to the prick because his team mates are so shit.

He should go and play for Conte or Pep.

Single handedly gave us the 3 points. Would have surely lost if not for him. He is the only reason we have a glimmer of hope in CL and la liga.

Are you serious ? His explosiveness and movement is completely the same for me as it was two years ago (maybe a bit here and there off, but not more than 5% decrease). It was two years ago that Messi scored those goals against Bayern and Bilbao and that was peak Messi for me, not the one from 2011/12. We would be talking about third peak of Messi who could have scored maybe 10 goals more up until now if we had good midfield and provided 10 more assists if our players were more clinical. That pass for Iniesta against Juve could have turned the whole game around if Iniesta knew how to shot.

I think he still has the explosiveness too. I think he lacks the confidence he had when young. Look at Dyablablabla. He runs through brick walls.
When you get older you just over think things too much.

Get Messi mad and he will act on instinct and ram raid through players. The only thing he lacks is stamina like he had before. It seems he paces things.

Also playing in this crap team might benefit his Argentina Career. It could be a blessing in disguise. If he can learn and remember how he is bailing this kind of mediocre team to victory, he won't feel as "indifferent" when playing for Argentina.

Sorry for the bad english.

Actually, I think it is quite the opposite. When you get older, you don't overthink things, that's the problem with young players. I really think we still have Messi at his prime, it's just a shame rest of the squad is pretty shit right now. The only thing I don't like about Messi that he has that habit of surrendering when chances are really slim, the prime example being that PSG comeback where Neymar sparked everything.

habit of surrendering . I feel that too. I have not liked the quality when the going get tough or your playing against negative, injustice type opponent, that you have to SINK into your seat. I always thought fight fire with fire and when you feel that sinking feel, fight like mad and don't surrender to negative/bullying tactics. I think Messi lacks this quality.

@ over thinking things at certain ages. let's agree to disagree. there's argument on both sides. I just hope playing in this bad team benefits his Argentina Career in someway.
