Sad days for us Messi fans, it's been all downhill since 2015. Looks like the next few seasons will determine who ends up being seen as the greater player between Messi and Ronaldo. If neither does anything great/noteworthy or wins any major trophies(very unlikely) then I think they'll be seen as equal by many, while some will prefer Ronaldo and others Messi. If this nightmare continues and Ronaldo continues to win the major trophies and individual awards, he'll be seen as the greater player by the majority, which is fair I guess as in that case his legacy would be better. If Messi wins the major trophies and individual awards, things will go back to normal where Messi will be viewed as the greater player by the majority. A world cup to either would settle it for good though.

Ronaldo these recent years provide 0 breath taking moments that all great players normally bring from time to time .. Messi brought those so much that his last goal of laliga was literally invisible in the headlines. Players build careers around 1 like those. Messi does them all the time, he takes our breath all the time.. any retarded who put them in the same bracket well you should feel pity for them and nothing else. they compare a mere poacher who plays the furthest in the pitch with a " finisher-playmaker" who plays behind strikers and meters away from goal based on what ? on goals lmfao . How u gonna build a case and start argue with this retarded stuff. where does the qualitative side even stand ? Why not Raul then.. I don't find much differece between Ronaldo nowadays and prime Raul. Seriously, just save yourself the effort.

Messi is better, but Ronaldo potentially having a better career than Messi, while competing with him since the start, is huge for the Portuguese.

By that same metric of trophies Xavi and Iniesta have had much better careers than Messi, but are they better players? Of course not.

CR7 can win 5 more CLs and Ballon D'ors and still won't ever be compared to Pele or Mardonna. There is a reason why everyone compares Ronaldo to only Messi but Messi to the other all time greats. His team achievements are incredible, don't get me wrong, but he just doesn't have the raw talent to be in the discussion for GOAT.

Today's society does not work like that. I know Messi is the better player, and I've already said it. However, the society today is busy, lazy and too superficial to look for things in detail. They will go with the fancier and quicker story to take in.

THAT is ON SPOT.
People are nowdays plain dumb and just read tweets and inform themsleves about players on wikipedia and shit.

I came in the office today and FIRST thing they asked me was, HAVE YOU SEEN RONALDO? Not Real, not the game, not anything but RONALDO...
10-20-30 years from now it will be...

he has X BdOr, X UCL, X La Ligas, X the Best FIFA, 1 EURO,+ etc etc. and they will say HE IS THE BEST... Because they newer watched HOW MESSI PLAYS.

I wonder how people never get tired about those comparisions.

exactly!!! tired and bored...

anyway they are different players...
mostly phisically, but after for another reason...

messi if doesn't score very often disputed great or at least good matches, because he is always in the core of the play, makes a lot of passes, assists, dribblings, etc...

the portuguese if doesn't score, usually hasn't a good performance...
he lives for scoring, not else...

all of us know the greatness of cr7...
he has been an incredible striker in these years in madrid...
almost all last blancos trophies has been conquered thanks him...

but messi takes part to the restricted list of players who are in the olimpo of football together pele' and maradona...
and we have remember cr7 has two years more than leo, so messi has all the time to surpass again the purtuguese for trophies, awards and personal records.

We all know Messi is the better footballer but we've got to admit that a lot of the "ghost" that used to hunt Ronaldo in the past, such as being a stat padder and not performing in big games, he's sort of put away in the past year or so.

Props to Ronaldo for making it sort of an arguable.

when CR had 1 bdor and messi had just won his 4th there was no argument
notwithstanding 1-2 of CR's bdors that should have been won by ramos (for similar reasons why maybe 1 of messi's should have been won by iniesta or xavi) CR has definitely closed the gap, especially this season. he was far more decisive than messi except for the clasico. if messi had put 8 goals past juventus and psg/x opponent in hypothetical semis we would have no problem calling messi the greatest, and we should not be so biased against CR as to deny him at least the credit he is due for winning what is his inevitable 5th bdor.

messi lacks CR's drive/will to be the best and CR lacks messi's sui generis talent. for whatever its worth, its an epic rivalry and the greatest in football history since both played in the same era unlike pele/maradona.

I think thats a load of bullshit, every player Messi has played with say he is extremely competitive, always wants to prove/show he's the best.
Just because he isn't vocal about it doesn't mean he doesn't want to be the best.
From everything i know about it, he works extremely hard to always be in the best possible shape to play (working on his game, fitness, diet etc)
I swear people are losing their minds after RM CL victory.
