True. Imo he doesn't keep his motivation as well as Ronaldo. We all know he's ahead of him in terms of footballing ability, but not in terms of will and determination. If we put our bias aside, we have to admit that.
CR7 is an absolute GOAT when it comes to being motivated all the time 100%.
Messi is better on skills, but if you lack in a motivation part, it is not good.
The same as how people used to say that our team in terms of skills is the best in the world (which is not btw).
But even if we are, if your players have low motivation, you will lose all the time 0:4 and 0:3 against more motivated teams like Psg and Juventus.
On this forum, people are too often blinded by pure technical skills of certain players (as if football and trophies are all about technique and dribbling and as if physique, motivation, IQ, tactics and other areas aren't too important).
Remember in the past: Adama is the best dribbler in the world. Who cares, if he is dumb as fuck?
Or: Halilovic has such an unique (technical) talent? Again, who cares if his head/IQ/decisions/tactical part is horrible?
We should more often think about psychological skills of players.
So, Messi is a more TECHNICALLY gifted than CR7.
But CR7 is the most motivated top player in the world. Remember how he celebrates like crazy a goal for 7:0 in the 94th minute against Las Palmas or Getafe.
Yes, it is annoying, but it shows how he cares for every single goal, assist, win.
When you add motivation into maths, then a difference between Messi and CR7 (due to technical advantage) is way smaller since Messi performs the way he does (often lazy) and CR7 performs the way he does (a weaker player but almost all the time playing at 120% of his abilities).
It's strange that this year Ronaldo seems to be a lot more praised in comparison to Messi when there hasn't been such a big difference, ability wise, since the early 2010's.
Facebook and twitter has really helped a great poacher become the rival of an all around genius. Maradona would have been crushed playing for a team like Napoli today. He'd be seen like a rich mans Gerrard at best and nowhere near goat status. smh
In the last 12 Months:
CR7: Champions league 2016, Euro 2016, La Liga 2017, Champions league 2017
Messi: La liga 2016 (which we almost lost since we lost a 10 point advantage since Zidane came in), CDR Mickey Mouse trophies
If we remove Barca glasses for a second, Cr7 deserves all BallonDOrs in the last 2 years.
You'll probably reply: but CR7 is a crap, his team is doing everything for him.
I have replied already about that part a few days ago on CR7's topic: but that's hypocricity.
In 2009-2010-2011 when we were dominating like crazy, wasn't it the same, aka reversed?
Messi had a team of Goats around him (Xavi, Iniesta, Pep), while RM were an unbalanced team of clowns?
So, when Messi was on his prime, Messi's team was miles better than RM's and of course that CR7 couldn't do anything.
Now, when RM is balanced and strong and when we are a team of clowns (even though, how can we be bad if we have MSN, for which people say that it is a best thing since sliced bread? ), now people say that RM's success is not about CR7 but about team's strength.
If you get my point?
Point remains that both Messi and CR7 had their best days when they had amazing teams around them.
Messi had the best days with Xavi, Iniesta and Pep.
CR7 is having the best days with Kroos, Modric and Zidane.
So, the same crap.
Neither of them managed to win a CL (for example) on their own when their team was a crap (like RM in Pep's era or Barca now when RM is way better).
CR7 now has 4 CLs.
Messi 3 (and a half).
CR7 has Euro 2016.
Cr7 has a record with winning 2 CLs in a row and 3 Cls in 4 years.
What is worse, in the next 2-3 years, imo, RM's chances compared to us are around 80:20 that they will win 1-2 more CLs.
So, if we remove Barca's glasses and if we imagine that we are Juve's or Man Utd's fans, then CR7 has achieved waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than Messi in the last 2 seasons.
Football is a team sport.
Your individual stats don't mean too much if you can't transform them into a team's success.
And even then, both Messi and CR7 have a somewhat similar team's success in their career's.
Some could argue that CR7 had even more team's success now with all these CLs lately and Euro 2016.
For the end, Barca has let down Messi to some extent.
We created Messi but we also "ruined" his career to some extent.
We were always a sentimental and emotional club.
And our current longterm planning is more or less how we always worked (except in golden 2005-2013 when we were blessed with Xavi-Iniesta-Busi-Puyol etc).
Zero planning, changing plans each few months and ruining everything we have done in the last few months etc.
Welcome to Barca.
For the end, if CR7 wins one more CL in the next 1-2 years, just imagine his CL tally when Messi and CR7 will end their careers.
I'm of the opinion that the Balon should be decided by statistical ratings match after match through-out the season, multiplied by difficulty of league the same way Golden Boot is decided. That way you take personal biases out, and the performances truly do speak for themselves.
I don't agree.
So, a player A can score 50 goals and have 20 assists.
But his team isn't winning anything.
A player B can have 40 goals and have 20 assists, but his team winning more or less every single trophy in the last 12-24 Months.
Football is a team's sport.
Pure stats doesn't mean shit.
How you influence your team and team's results, imo, count way more than 10-20 individual goals.
People could reply here: but RM is winning because RM is a better team.
But once again, Messi was also winning when Barca was a team of aliens when Xavi and Spain were winning every single NT trophy.
Since Xavi declined, Messi won only 1 CL in 6 seasons, even though he had MSN in attack for some time, plus still somewhat playable Iniesta and Busi.
So, if we remove our bias for a second, we should say:
We Barca, have made a huge crap.
We had by far the best team in the world.
And then we managed to end here, where we are currently.
We have MSN, who are supposed to be the best attack ever, and in 4 years since we bought Neymar, RM won 3 CLs (lol), and in 3 MSN's years, Real has 2 consecutive CLs (lol).
So, a lot of things have gone horribly wrong with our longterm future, with our galactico's signings, with our onedimensional style of play, with our board, coaches, La Masia, Robert.
You guys can say what you want, but to have MESSI in your team and to win only 1 CL in 6 years is the biggest fckng disgrace and fail in a modern football history.
So, with Messi we have cheat codes and let's say that our team is overpowered to 150%.
While other teams are at 100% of strength (without Messi).
And we, with 150% overpowered team, can't win a shit for 6 years in a row.
Again, a disgrace.
So, yes. CR7 and RM deserve all the titles since we are such idiots in planning, buying players and with our current board, Robert and coaches.
