Couldn't do much today as Sporting defended well and didn't give him much of a chance to do anything. Had to really fight too create any danger. I feel Sporting did a very good job on Messi today. Many of Ronaldo's Portugal teammates play for Sporting so I guess that motivated them even more. A younger Messi would have done much better in this kind of game but Messi is of course 30 years old and can't do everything on his own all the time.

There is no question Sporting were very motivated for this game, look at the amount of yellow cards they accumulated. They did play a dirty game but it wouldn't until Barca scored that they really started to play like that. I guess they believed they could of got something out of the game and became frustrated when Barca scored.

Every time Messi ever steps on a pitch players will be motivated to stop him. Same with Ronaldo and any top top player.

He was crap. Nothing to do with Sporting players being Ronaldo friends. That is up there as some serious scraping barrel.

bad game indeed but the whole team bar a few were pretty shit today. i'd like to see him be more greedy and take more shots.. Suarez is a donkey and Messi is always trying to assist him; its no suprise he performed better when Suarez was benched

He barely has connection with Iniesta and what is left are out for form Suarez, out of place Roberto and out of football Rakitic.

It seems like with Suarez on the pitch, he hesitates with shooting and is rather looking to feed him instead. Don't like it at all. We all know how great his shooting and finishing are this season.

There are positives and negatives to building a team around one player: you get him out of the game, you prevent attacking football against you

Bad game, but not worried for him. He looks motivated and physically well. Clearly suffering under lack of link up opportunities up front, though. Suarez fucks up every one-two and nobody else is there for him.

Messi trying to feed Suarez all game was frustrating. With the state of form Suarez is currently in, we should play two wingers and Messi as false nine. Denis on the left, Deulofeu on the right, Messi in the middle. Will be far more fluid and comfortable for Messi.
