He was a better player in 11/12. He scored 50 in the league and no other Barca player scored more than 12. If he had had Neymar and Suarez in 14/15 form, they could have done just as much mayhem back then if not more.

Messi's 2012 was his ultimate form. He's not better now. He would win more matches for Barça on his own, score and assist more. I'd love to see 2012 Messi with Neymar and suarez.

Messi had more stamina back then, but a lot less experience and practice at long balls and playmaking from deep. I think his football IQ keeps rising, even while some of his physical attributes decline. 2012 Messi with on form Ney and Luis would be almost redundant. He's surely more complete now.

I think he's better now, as he added the "deep" repertoire. Just like Messi is still the best dribbler by a mile, but probably not as good as 2012.

Only a complete fool thinks he was better in 2012. Messi was still young and learning, over the years he's gradually learnt he doesn't need to go from 0-60 when he's in possession, plus he had Iniesta and Xavi in their peak years behind him, he could stay forwards and deal the necessary damage.

Nowadays he's all over the midfield and attack, and he's learnt he doesn't need to beat 3 men to create a chance, he can do it with one pass. Goals may not be as frequent as they were back then, but that's largely down to a big decline in the team around him IMO.

Messi in the 2014/15 season stomps all over Messi between 2008-2013. From January onwards once Enrique accepted Messi can do his own thing, Messi (near single handedly at times) won the treble for the Club, and that was by having a far bigger influence over the attack and midfield than he ever did in his earlier years.

True, even in 2012 a lot of people claimed he was best in 2011.
Probably if we take a wider period its arsenal match until psg away that was his ultimate peak. He is still 10/10 though, its just different now. More playmaking, better vision, passing ,less dribbles, goals and explosiveness.

I think Messi is in phenominal form. People don't realize he is carrying a poor form Barca for weeks, the same with Argentina, which is harder than shining in a functional team like past seasons' Barca.
