He's scoring a huge percentage of all barça goals this season even though he missed a month. But that also comes with moving more centrally at times. I think Messi can still play that way when it's called for.

I am convinced as well, he might have given up some speed but that could be compenstated by him having become the undisputed no.1 penalty and freekick-taker, he could claim them all if he wanted to. He is also being super efficient considering how many goals he has scored with so little chances being created. But the one thing that will prevent him from ever getting close to that record goal tally in a season IS his lack of selfishness.

Messi is the only creative output we have, and he's having to drop deep to get the ball. The team is poor and disorganized. Suarez being often offside is also disrupting Messi, as he can't pass to him. He hasn't been brilliant, but surely not poor.
